Mitchell Hooper Shows Off Impressive Endurance Levels With a 465-lb (211-kg) Squat For 20 Reps
Canadian Strongman Mitchell Hooper has proven to be one of the fastest-growing stars in the game. He has had an amazing first year in the sport and is now coming off an impressive performance at the 2023 World’s Strongest Man, held Apr. 19-23. However, Hooper recognized that his endurance and conditioning need some more improvement. So, in a recent post made on Instagram, Hooper crushed a heavy set of 465-pound (211-kilogram) squats for 20 reps in the hopes of improving his conditioning.
Mitchell Hooper first gained attention for his superhuman strength in 2022 when he got the chance to participate in the World’s Strongest Man competition after Rauno Heinla pulled out. He made the most of the opportunity with a strong performance, finishing eighth in his maiden showing.
Following the event, Hooper got some more experience and went on a very dominant run. He ended up turning in one of the best rookie seasons ever. Amongst all, he defeated former 2020 WSM champ Oleksii Novikov to take home the top prize at the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic UK last September. Then, Hooper scored another gold at the 2022 Giants Live World Tour Finals.
In his next appearance, Hooper took bronze and added a new World Record to his glittering resume at the 2022 Rogue Invitational. He generated a ton of momentum moving forward toward his second WSM appearance. There was still more work to be done though. So, he showed off his unreal strength by lifting 771.6 pounds (350-kg) on the squat raw for two reps earlier this year. About two weeks later, Hooper stunned the competition to win the 2023 Australia’s Strongest International title.

Hooper continued to progress in the training room. His next achievement was a massive PR of 925.9-pound (420-kg) raw deadlift.
Besides his crazy power, Hooper regularly educates his fans on techniques. Most notably, Mitchell gave his take on performing deadlifts properly with four different kinds of barbells three months ago and followed up by providing tips on Loading Medley and Front Carry.
After completing a few seminars, Mitchell Hooper smoked a massive 1,697.6-lb (770-kg) raw leg press for eight reps in preparation for the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic. His hard work paid off as he emerged victorious at the event two months ago.
The 27-year-old was brimming with confidence going into the 2023 World’s Strongest Man show last month. Although he went up against a lineup of proven veterans, there was no stopping him. He established his lead early in the contest and came out on top of a close-fought war with Tom Stoltman and Oleksii Novikov. Following the outcome, Hooper opened up on taking inspiration from the likes of Strongman icon Brian Shaw and others in an exclusive interview with Fitness Volt.

Mitchell Hooper crushes 465-lb (211-kg) squat for 20 reps
In a recent Instagram post, Mitchell Hooper performed an insane set of 465-lb (211-kg) squats for 20 reps. He explained how this workout routine should level up his conditioning levels.
“465lbs (211kg) x20,” wrote Hooper. “I wasn’t happy with the direction my conditioning was heading through Arnold’s and worlds. It didn’t cost me, but I know I could be better.”
Mitchell Hooper returned to the training room for a bodybuilding-style workout after the 2023 WSM victory. In addition, after clearing his mind, Mitchell reflected on his experience competing at the event and called for the development of a rule set.
A week ago, Hooper laid out his must-have supplements along with a breakdown of how alcohol and sugar play into the recovery process.
Given the latest training update, it’s clear Hooper is taking no days off and will likely return stronger than ever in his next planned outing.

Powerlifter Daria Rusanenko (84KG) Sets 276-kg (608.5-lb) Equipped Squat IPF World Record
Born in 2001, Daria Rusanenko is a rising star in powerlifting and already one of the strongest women in the equipped division. She has already left her mark in the sport, but being young and hungry, she still keeps improving with every appearance. Most recently, Daria took part in the 2023 EPF European Open, Junior & Sub-Junior Equipped Powerlifting Championships, which was held from May 2-7, in Thisted, Denmark. It is here that Daria managed to set a new 276-kilogram (608.5-pound) equipped squat IPF World Record in the 84-kilogram weight class.
Daria Rusanenko was by far the lightest woman in her weight class with a bodyweight of 77.17 kilograms (169.8 pounds). However, that did not stop her from putting up the heaviest equipped squat the 84-kilogram weight class has ever seen.
Daria Rusanenko only needed two attempts to break the IPF World Record. She first warmed up with a lift of 260 kilograms (573.2 pounds). Already on the second attempt, Daria lifted 276 kilograms (608.5 pounds) and set a new record. In addition, Daria did not even go for her third attempt, which could have been even heavier.
The previous U84KG IPF Equipped Squat World Record was also held by Daria Rusanenko. It stood at 275.5 kilograms (607.4 pounds), which she set at the 2022 IPF World Open Equipped Powerlifting Championships.

Daria Rusanenko’s Full Performance
Despite a very promising start, Daria Rusanenko did not have luck in the remainder of the competition. She was unsuccessful in her final bench press attempt, as well as two of her deadlift attempts. However, she still managed to clinch a third-place finish behind Soerlie Heranger Anna and Timmers Ankie.

Analyze Lifts
Daria Rusanenko began competing in powerlifting at just 13-years-old back in 2015. So, despite still being extremely young, she already has almost a decade of experience. In that time, Daria took part in 30 sanctioned competitions and won 17 of them. Her greatest victories were the 2017 & 2019 EPF European Equipped Powerlifting Championships.
Daria Rusanenko wanted to claim her third EPF European Championship title now, but she still walked away with a new World Record. In fact, if only one of the two deadlift attempts she missed was successful, Daria would have walked away with a gold medal. However, there is still a lot more title for her to reclaim this title in the future.

Powerlifter Samantha Eugenie Crushes a 200-kg (440.9-lb) Raw Squat PR In Training
At the age of 20, Samantha Eugenie is an international powerlifting sensation due to her tremendous strength. Although her greatest event is the deadlift, Samantha is no stranger to putting up some incredible numbers in other lifts as well. Most notably, her deadlift prowess excellently transfers to the squat and she just reached a new milestone. So, Samantha shared the video of her new 200-kilogram (440.9-pound) squat personal record (PR) on her Instagram page.
Landing a new PR is a humongous achievement, but the fact is that it is the first time that Samantha Eugenie crossed the 200-kilogram (440.9-pound) mark for the first time in her career. Moreover, Samantha completed the squat PR in a raw manner, having only used a lifting belt and knee sleeves.
Samantha Eugenie also revealed that her bodyweight at the time of her new squat PR was 69 kilograms (152.1 pounds). So, her 200-kilogram (440.9-pound) squat came out to 2.9x her bodyweight. In addition, Samantha also competes in the 69-kilogram weight class, which means that this is natural for her.

Samantha Eugenie’s next goal is to train until the 200-kilogram (440.9-pound) squat becomes a weight which she is capable of achieving without too much struggle. She revealed this goal in the caption of her post as well.
“Now I just have to work even harder to make sure that this load is 100% acquired”
It is not clear what competition Samantha Eugenie is preparing for currently, but she has given some hints about it. After taking part in the 2023 FFForce French Nationals, Samantha revealed that she is preparing for a competition in September. So, she has a defined goal and her program is obviously going well, having scored a new Squat PR four months beforehand.
Despite being only 20-years-old, Samantha Eugenie has already accumulated 5 years of experience in powerlifting. During this time, she has taken part in 12 sanctioned competitions and won nine of them. One of which is the 2022 IPF World Junior Classic Powerlifting Championships.

Powerlifter Bradon Gulch Attempts 525-lb Tom Platz Squat Challenge, Impresses with 21 Reps
Bodybuilding has produced many legends, but few have been as iconic as Tom Platz. Tom was, and is to this day, recognized for his incredible lower body workouts, which have proven to be quite effective considering the size of Platz’s legs. Tom became known as the “Quadfather” for good reason. His legs weren’t just a sight to behold, they were also incredibly strong, with some of his impressive feats still unmatched today. His quad muscles were the stuff of legend, and he rightly earned his place among the greats of bodybuilding and strength training. The most remarkable one was his 23-rep squat set with 525 pounds on the barbell. Platz completed this set in 1992, and ever since many world-class athletes have attempted to match it.
Everyone knows the best squatters usually come from powerlifting, which is why it’s no surprise to see a lot of them taking on the Tom Platz Challenge. Most recently, Bradon Gulch was the man who gave his maximum effort to achieve the incredible feat. In addition, he came extremely close to matching Tom Platz’s result, having performed only two reps less than him. So, after reaching his limit, Bradon ended up with a 21-rep 525-pound squat set.
Bradon Gulch utilized a pair of knee sleeves and a lifting belt to complete this set, making it raw by the majority of standards. In addition, Bradon is just 22-years-old, making his attempt even more impressive. He didn’t seem to struggle much until he hit his 18th rep, but he pushed through and managed to eke out three more. In the end, Bradon failed while attempting his 22 repetition, as he was not able to get up from the squatting position. After the spotters took the barbell from his back, Bradon fell back and decided to remain on the floor until the burning sensation in his legs started to dull.

Bradon Gulch isn’t the first elite powerlifter to tackle Tom Platz’s squat challenge. Joe Sullivan attempted the same challenge a year ago. In spite of being a World Record holder, Joe was only able to complete 20 repetitions, putting him behind Bradon.
The bodyweight of Tom Platz during his 23-rep 525-pound squat set was 198 pounds, while Bradon Gulch’s bodyweight was unknown at the time of the attempt. Just two weeks prior to his attempt, Bradon participated in a powerlifting competition, where he weighed 271.2 pounds.
It is also important to note that Bradon Gulch is focused on improving his one rep max on the squat and not improving his AMRAP sets. So, the heaviest official squat of his career came out to 705.4 pounds, which is significantly heavier than Platz’s reported PR of around 600 pounds. So, it all depends on one’s primary goals.
Overall, Bradon Gulch took part in 11 sanctioned powerlifting competitions, winning seven of them. Even though he has been competing for only two years, it is apparent that he will continue to improve for years to come.
Bradon Gulch’s Competition PR
Squat: 320 kilograms (705.4 pounds) — (2022 USAPL Liftmas Open)
Bench Press: 212.5 kilograms (468.4 pounds) — (2023 USAPL Arnold Pro Bench)
Deadlift: 300 kilograms (661.4 pounds) — (2022 USAPL Liftmas Open)
Total: 825 kilograms (1,818.8 pounds) — (2022 USAPL Liftmas Open)
Related: Leg Day Motivation: Tom Platz “I Was Willing To Die For It”
Bradon Gulch seems to be the closest man to Tom Platz’s record currently, as two reps don’t seem too far away. In addition, as explained earlier, if Bradon decides to work on his AMRAP instead of a One-Rep Max at some point, it is very likely that he would be able to surpass the 23 reps performed by Tom Platz.

72-YO Powerlifter Shelly Stettner Scores New Raw 265-lb Squat & 155-lb Bench Press All-Time PRs
Among the greatest Masters powerlifters in the world, Shelly Stettner founded the belief that no one is ever too old to become the best in what they want. Now, she is once again continuing to prove her statements, having just landed new squat and bench press Personal Records (PRs) at the age of 72-years-old. In addition, Shelly shared both of her new achievements on Instagram.
The first PR that Shelly Stettner locked out was the squat of 265 pounds (120.2 kilograms). She did so by putting on a pair of knee sleeves and a lifting belt, dropping under the barbell, and easily squatting 265 pounds (120.2 kilograms).
Shelly Stettner then scored another personal record on the bench press. After a few warm-up sets, Shelly ramped up to a 155-pound (70.3-kilogram) bench, the heaviest she has ever lifted. Although it did not look as easy as her squat PR, the bench press still looked quite comfortable for Shelly.

Apart from her National title, Shelly Stettner has also claimed other titles which lifted her to the status of the sport’s greatest athlete. Most notably, Shelly won the 63-kilogram weight class of the 2022 IPF World Masters Classic & Equipped Powerlifting Championships. In addition, Shelly also set four new masters IPF World Records at the Masters’ Championships.
So, Shelly Stettner hopes to defend both her National and World titles this year, but judging by her new PRs, she also has the potential to break some more World Records.
Overall, Shelly Stettner has taken part in nine sanctioned powerlifting competitions and won eight of them. Still, the most impressive factor is that she began competing at 68-years-old, and is now better than ever before.

Powerlifter Reece Fullwood (125KG) Sets 412.5-kg (909.4-lb) Raw Squat All-Time World Record
Coming into the 2023 GPC-GB Welsh National Championships, Reece Fullwood did not have too high expectations. The competition was held on one day only, April 30th, in Swansea, so Reece had the goal of completing it without any injuries. However, his achievements reached miles above that, since Reece managed to set a new All-Time World Record Raw Squat in the 125-kilogram weight class.
Reece Fullwood opened his performance with a 360-kilogram (793.6-pound) squat, which immediately looked way too easy for him. So, for the second attempt, he made a jump of 30 kilograms (66.1 pounds) for a squat of 390 kilograms (859.8 pounds). This second attempt was nothing more difficult than his first one, as he made it look like a warm-up.
However, having full confidence in his abilities, Reece Fullwood made another massive weight jump and loaded a 412.5-kilogram (909.4-pound) squat. Equipped with just a lifting belt, knee sleeves, and a swagger pair of glasses, Reece managed to push through and lock out a brand new All-Time World Record Raw Squat.
The previous record holder in the 125-kilogram weight class was Phillip Herndon. He set the old squat World Record at the 2023 USPC Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship by squatting 411 kilograms (906.1 pounds). So, not even two months have passed since Herndon set the record, but Reece Fullwood has already outperformed it.

Reece Fullwood was primarily focused on the squat event at the 2023 GPC-GB Welsh National Championships, since he was unable to display his best on other events due to some injury issues. However, even with some nerve issues and an elbow injury, Reece managed to set a new British Record Squat and Total.

Powerlifter Russel Orhii Scores a Huge 337.5-kg (744-lb) Raw Squat Two-Rep PR
Although we don’t get to see him compete very often in recent times, it is still clear that Russel Orhii is among the top powerlifters in the world. He’s always committed to his training, which is evident in his continued preparation for his upcoming professional events. Speaking of his upcoming appearance, Russel is clearly pumped up and ready to compete, as he recently achieved a new personal best by squatting 337.5 kilograms (744 pounds) for two reps. Proud of his new achievement, Russel shared the video footage on his Instagram page.
The squat has always been Russel Orhii’s greatest and most favorite event in powerlifting. One of Russel’s biggest strengths is his incredibly strong and functional legs, which enable him to lift weights that are almost 4x his own body weight. So, due to these hard-earned attributes, Russel managed to squat 337.5 kilograms (744 pounds) for two reps in a raw manner. He only utilized a lifting belt and knee sleeves.
Russel Orhii’s first rep with the 337.5 kilograms (744 pounds) looked amazing. He did not display any signs of struggle or waste any excess energy. It was only in the second rep that Russel encountered difficulties, but he passed with a smile, showing confidence in his ability to lift the weight.
“744lbs/337.5kg for 2I done got me a lil motion..My next meet is gonna go crazy”

Russel Orhii mentioned that he will compete in the caption of his post, but did not reveal any details. It is exciting to see him set a goal for some competition, as he is known for breaking records and putting on an impressive performance.
The last time that Russel Orhii competed was in December 2022, meaning that a significant amount of time has passed since. However, that also means that he has had a lot of time to improve, which is evident in his new two-rep squat PR.
Having also focused on bodybuilding during 2022, Russel Orhii has managed to put on some muscle. So, he also jumped up in bodyweight and thus competed in the 90-kilogram weight class at the 2022 USAPL Korea Winter Showdown. However, his current bodyweight is not clear, as Russel’s plans for the future were not revealed.
Overall, Russel Orhii took part in 18 sanctioned competitions during his 8-year-long career. He won 17 of them and was considered as the king of the 83-kilogram weight class. In addition, Russel also set countless National and World records.

It appears that Russell Orhii has been setting new personal records almost every week for the past few months. Also, his physique looks better than ever, which illustrates just how hard he is working to accomplish everything he has set his sights on. It is paying off, as new PRs like the 337.5-kilogram (744-pound) squat will keep coming.

Powerlifter Dan Bell Suffers Injury After a Massive 425-kg (937-lb) Raw Squat
This year was supposed to be a real delight for all powerlifting fans, as Dan Bell and Hafthor Bjornsson both had goals to set new World Records and battle against each other. However, the situation has quickly changed for the worse, as both men injured themselves. Dan’s injury is the more recent one, having suffered it at the 2023 USA-UA Pioneer on the Beach and revealed it just a few days ago on Instagram.
Dan Bell injured himself while performing a 425-kilogram (937-pound) squat on his third attempt. He got stuck in the middle of the lift, but somehow managed to push through. Although it looked like it was time to celebrate, Dan immediately showed signs of injury, barely being able to walk out of the squat rack.
“This one hurt. Felt like my left glute was getting torn in half then following the leg simply locked up and wouldn’t work. It was wild.”
Dan Bell tried to rest for some time in the hopes that his injury was just a small tweak of some sorts. However, after a few days it only got worse.
“Woke up Monday 4/17 unable to feel or move my toes. Absolutely wild a week after.”
However, Dan Bell took a positive approach to this, hoping to find out what the injury is and recover in the best way possible. After visiting two different hospitals, he finally found out the extent of his injuries.
“Moving forward with morphine and 2 different hospitals finding one of the largest MRI machines in Florida to find out my spine and 6 bulging discs have seen better days.”
Dan Bell’s recovery process has begun and he wants to avoid surgery if possible. However, his future is currently very uncertain.
“Already in the process of working things out and avoiding surgery at all costs… Got to be honest the future is up in the air. Just one day at a time.”

Any injuries around the spine are extremely risky and complicated. So, Dan Bell definitely needs to take his time and make sure that he is healed properly before coming back to the sport. Luckily, Bell is experienced enough to avoid making any mistakes, which should be good enough to see him back on the stage in the future.

73-Year-Old Rudy Kadlub Lands a 455-lb (206.4-kg) Unofficial Masters World Record Squat With Wraps
Despite his age of 73, Rudy Kadlub’s physical abilities remain impressive. Most people who live into their 70s do not devote their lives to sports, but Rudy finds powerlifting to be his source of youth. However, no one could have predicted how successful Rudy would get in his professional powerlifting career. Although he holds many World Records, it seems that more will follow. According to Rudy Kadlub, he recently broke the U100KG Masters (70-74) IPL World Record Squat With Wraps by lifting 455 pounds (206.4 kilograms). The current official World Record is also held by Rudy Kadlub, as he squatted 451.9 pounds (205 kilograms) at the 2021 IPL Drug Tested World Championship.A previous shoulder injury prevented Rudy Kadlub from doing squats for a while. It appears Rudy has recovered from this injury, as evidenced by his recent feat of strength.“455–3lbs over my WR. First time under the @kabukistrength Squat Bar in this training block. Shoulder felt tight but I’m happy that I could get myself into position without assistance from my training partner.”Watch the lift here:Related: 73-Year-Old Rudy Kadlub Squats An Unofficial World Record With a 454-pound (206-kilogram) LiftRudy Kadlub will soon get the chance to make this record official, as he plans to make an appearance at the 2022 USPA Oregon State Championships.
