Terrence Ruffin Shares Retirement Plans, Wants To Win Arnold Classic Three Times
Terrence Ruffin plans to defend his Arnold Classic title and win once again before taking a break from competition.
Terrence Ruffin has emerged as one of the top competitors in the Classic Physique division. At 29 years old, he is a two-time Arnold Classic champion and has finished as the runner-up at the Olympia. Recently, Ruffin did a Q&A on his Instagram story, answering some hard-hitting questions like when he plans to retire.
Ruffin was able to reach the pinnacle at the Arnold Classic in 2021, after finishing second to Alex Cambronero the year before. He has now won back-to-back titles in Columbus but has yet to lift the Sandow Trophy. Classic Physique star Chris Bumstead has completed the three-peat and will be looking for his fourth consecutive title.
Ruffin has defended his Arnold Classic title successfully on one occasion and plans to do it again. He recently shared that he wants to win the competition three times before taking a break from competition.
Terrence Ruffin Gives Timeline On Retirement
The Classic Physique division continues to grow in popularity, led by Bumstead and Ruffin, among others. This is not something that Ruffin is shying away from as he plans to compete at the biggest shows of the year once again.
During a session of answering questions on Instagram, Ruffin was asked if he plans on defending his title during the 2023 Arnold Classic.
“I want to win 3. So that’s the plan. That would be my last one though. Then I would love to commentate it.”
Of course, a common question around bodybuilders is when they plan to retire. The recent string of deaths in the sport have made competitors think about their status and monitor their health carefully. Terrence Ruffin is still a young athlete but that does not mean he is not thinking about the future.
Ruffin was asked how many years he has left to compete and he gave some insight on his plan.
“2-3 years then. Idk if I’ll be retired for good but I’ll definitely take some time off from competing.”
This means that Ruffin would be in his early 30s when he decides to step away from bodybuilding. It is unknown if he will follow through with this plan or if he will retire for good.
What we do know is that we can plan to see Terrence Ruffin on the Arnold Classic stage next year as he looks to win his third consecutive title.

Terrence Ruffin And Urs Kalecinski Get Together For Massive Arm Workout
Terrence Ruffin and Urs Kalecinski continue to be contenders in Classic Physique and showed off a massive arm day.
Classic Physique has quickly turned into one of the most popular divisions in bodybuilding. The talent has gone beyond three-time Olympia champion Chris Bumstead. There are many who can contend on a year-to-year basis and this is why Classic Physique has a chance to take over the sport. Recently, two titans of the division, Terrence Ruffin and Urs Kalecinski, got together for a massive arm workout.
Ruffin is coming off his second-consecutive Arnold Classic title. Kalecinski was crowned champion at the 2022 Boston Pro. It is likely that both competitors will now focus on Olympia prep after top-five finishes in 2021 — Ruffin (runner-up) and Kalecinski (4th).
The workout video was shared to Terrence Ruffin’s YouTube page. Along with Urs Kalecinski, there was a huge workout put in at The Pro’s Gym in Columbus, OH.
“We got goals — Olympia December 2022, and I’m really excited to start making the improvements I need to make to be at my best at that show,” Ruffin said.
Terrence Ruffin and Urs Kalecinski kept it short and simple during this workout. It began with cable lateral raises to warmup. The bodybuilders did not reveal the number of sets or reps they completed during this workout.
The duo continued with triceps extensions. This exercise looked like an overhead cable triceps extension. This is because Ruffin and Kalecinski kept their elbows in front of their bodies and their arms were parallel to the floor. The workout ended with a superset of chest-supported biceps curl and seated biceps curl. The final set included a drop set on each exercise along with a static hold on seated bicep curls. And of course, the workout cannot be completed without a posing session where the bodybuilders conditioned their muscles for competition.
Bodybuilding in all divisions is about mass but Classic Physique includes other elements as well. They focus on conditioning along with symmetry of the muscles, including V-taper and a marrow waist.
Terrence Ruffin and Urs Kalecinski are reasons why Classic Physique is in an incredible spot moving forward. After victories this season, the sights are set on the 2022 Olympia, which will take place from Dec. 16-18 in Las Vegas. This workout is one example of the work that is being put in already.

Terrence Ruffin Looks Incredibly Shredded in Recent Update
Terrence Ruffin is looking extra shredded in recent physique update.
Terrence Ruffin is looking incredibly shredded a month after his important Arnold Classic victory. Ruffin showcased a truly impressive stage ready physique a month after his victory at the first big bodybuilding show of the season.
Despite the Arnold Classic 2022 being over a month ago, Terrence Ruffin is still looking incredibly shredded after his big win. So many winners can find themselves content with their work and push themselves to start their bulk again to prepare for a future show, in this case the Olympia. But it appears that Ruffin isn’t subscribing to that particular practice. Instead the Arnold Classic Physique champion is apparently in some absolutely jacked and diced condition.
The Arnold Classic champion was once again able to assert his dominance on the field. Namely Terrence Ruffin was able to once again out duel former Arnold Classic and Olympia Classic Physique champion Breon Ansley. At this point Ruffin has proved himself as the top contender for Chris Bumstead’s Olympia crown. At this point it’s clear that Ruffin is the only person capable of challenging Bumstead.
Ahead of his Arnold Classic victory Terrence Ruffin was looking like a world beater. It was clear that he was the front runner and rightly so. He showed a well balanced physique with impressive musculature and symmetry.
Couple weeks before the @arnoldsports show. I was little nervous being around 10lbs lighter than normal but that’s when you just trust what you see and in your team.
Still Shredded
A recent update to his Instagram showed just how incredible Terrence Ruffin appears a month after his victory. His current form is so impressive in fact that Ruffin could step on stage and potentially dominate anyone in the division.
Physique Update: currently 187lbs
Just following the plan @hyacine_nassir and @hypertrophycoach have laid out for me.
With several months to go until the 2022 Olympia, Terrence Ruffin has plenty of time to make solid improvements that will keep Chris Bumstead on notice.

2022 Arnold Classic Analysis: Terrence Ruffin Vs Ramon Rocha Queiroz Battle For First
Terrence Ruffin stays strong front and center as Ramon Rocha Queiroz seemingly edges out Breon Ansley at the 2022 Arnold Classic pre-judging.
Friday afternoon held the day one pre-judging at the 2022 Arnold Classic, with the Classic Physique division taking center stage of the group. This year’s lineup was certainly stacked – with many pointing out that the roster included basically all top tier athletes from the Olympia minus Chris Bumstead. Many were excited to see how top competitors Terrence Ruffin and Breon Ansley would compare. Others were excited for relative newcomers and rising stars Urs Kalecinski and Ramon Rocha Queiroz. Ultimately, the Classic Physique comparison round ended with a strong face-off between returning champ Terrence Ruffin and Ramon Rocha Queiroz.
In what might come as a surprise to longtime fans fo the Arnold Classic, the pre-judging round for Classic Physique was relatively short. In total there were only three callouts. And most notably, the final callout did not involve any shifting of athletes. Each competitor stayed in their exact spot as they were originally called out.
Typically, head judge Steve Weinberger likes to keep both the athletes and the audience off balance by swapping competitors around. He also often will push the final callout with multiple posing rounds. This time he kept it short and sweet.
So what does that tell us? Perhaps that the judges feel confident in who will be landing in the top positions. Terrence Ruffin and Ramon Rocha Queiroz stood squarely in the center of the four person callout. While that leaves no room for a direct center athlete – it’s clear that these two were battling for first place. Ruffin in particular looked to be the absolute standout.
2022 Arnold Classic Pre-Judging: The Top 4 Standout Competitors
The final callout also seemed to match up with how the individual posing rounds were perceived. Terrence Ruffin was the first to pose – setting the standard that all other competitors needed to match up towards. Ruffin is the returning champion, so there was already some weight behind him starting first with posing routines. In addition to this, the moment he stepped on stage, he showcased an incredible package.
Urs Kalecinski also turned some heads upon stepping onto the stage for his posing routine. Urs has been gaining a lot of hype due to his physique updates on social media leading into the show. He’s a relative newcomer – but he did not disappoint. At first, it seemed that he would perhaps be impressive enough to land a first place spot. Though the final callouts seem to indicate he might be pushed down somewhere closer to third or fourth.
Ramon Rocha Queiroz, on the other hand, seemed to bring a wonderful package but one that was falling a little short. Originally, upon his individual routine, we had him placed closer to the bottom fo the top 5 pack. All of that changed upon seeing him standing next to his fellow competitors. Not only did he stand out among the other athletes on stage – he was placed by the judges right in the middle next to Terrence Ruffin. He was also never moved from that spot – despite being put through two complete rounds of posing.
Breon Ansley continues to bring a solid physique. Upon seeing his individual posing routine, we could see him easily landing a second place spot. But there is a world of difference between individual rounds and the comparison rounds. Ramon, perhaps using his height to his advantage, kept drawing eyes closer to his overall package in the final callout.
That being said, a lot can change in the six or so hours between the pre-judging and the finals. Each of these competitors will reflect on the callouts, review video if possible, and determine how they can improve ever so slightly to change the outcome of the final results. All four of these competitors have a chance to re-arrange what we saw in the final callout this afternoon.
One competitor that we see staying in place is Terrence Ruffin. Unless he makes some sort of fatal mistake leading into the finals, he brought a near perfect package. We predict that he will land the first place spot and the rest will battle for second. While Ramon Rocha Queiroz seems a shoe-in currently for second, we can see a scenario where Breon Ansley creeps up above him to grab that second place spot.
Only time will tell – and Generation Iron will continue to provide updates, analysis, and result updates later tonight when we return for the 2022 Arnold Classic finals!
Terrence Ruffin Looks Ready to Dominate Weeks Out From The Arnold Classic
Terrence Ruffin looks incredible weeks out from the big show.
Terrence Ruffin is looking impressive just weeks out from the Arnold Classic. The 2021 Arnold Classic Physique champion is looking ready to repeat in 2022.
Securing multiple top level bodybuilding championships is no easy feat. That’s even more true when it comes to the Olympia and the Arnold Classic. If you’re able to do that then you’re certainly in a class all your own. It’s clear that Terrence Ruffin has the gifts necessary to join thar rarified status.
As the 2022 Arnold Classic draws near the returning champion Terrence Ruffin seems poised and ready to take on all challengers. Ruffin is looking to to repeat repeat the success he had in 2021. With Chris Bumstead sitting atop the Classic Physique division, Ruffin is doing his best to take his physique to another level.
Terrence Ruffin has always shown great promise as a competitor. Now he is realizing his potential and is showing the world that he is one of the top Classic Physique competitors in the world.
Weeks out from the 2022 Arnold Classic, Terrence Ruffin is showing my off his current physique. From the looks of things Ruffin is ready to repeat this year.
Todays thoughts: First time I’ve felt this tired in prep since 2018 but oh well ?. Cardio only at 30minutes a day which is fine. Food feels lower than normal (around 150g of carbs I think) but this prep wasn’t normal starting about 4-5 weeks ago. Some days I’m not quite happy with how I’m looking but today was a good day. Strength hasn’t left at all but pumps aren’t quite as strong – That doesn’t bother me though.
I feel very confident going into this show but I’m also aware that anything can happen. The stoic in me doesn’t dwell on the latter too much though. I’ve been reading a bit and the sports physiologist of top tier athletes say great athletes tend to be optimistic realists. However they turn down the realism when in and close to competition time. Almost bordering on delusion.
What do you think of Terrence Ruffin and his current physique ahead of the Arnold Classic?

“If you can get that cable…to be straight across, that’s your best bet because it’ll be heaviest there.”
Ruffin triple-set cable flyes with more presses on the incline bench and laying Y-raises. This also helped work his shoulders over the course of the workout. During the routine, Bennett continues to discuss the position of the workouts and how it will hit different muscles. Arnold Classic Raises Classic Physique Prize Money Higher Than Olympia
The Arnold Classic raises prize money higher than the Olympia.
The Arnold Classic has raised the prize money for the Classic Physique. This change comes as a major surprise particularly since the payout is higher than that of the Olympia.
Bodybuilding has notoriously paid out a relatively light amount to competitors seeking glory. While winning a show may grant a person prestige, it certainly never paid out as much as it could. As a result many bodybuilders have had to take jobs that pay out far less than effort required. This meant bodybuilders would often train hard and push themselves to the brink while receiving very little money in return.
But now it appears the Arnold Classic is addressing that very issue. According to Terrence Ruffin, the Arnold Classic will indeed be paring out far more than even the Olympia for the Classic Physique division.
According to his recent Instagram post, Terrence Ruffin confirmed that the prize money for taking first in the Classic Physique division has gone from $7,000 to $60,000. Talk about a massive upgrade. Finally it appears that the competitors are getting what they deserve. Ruffian’s post details the increase in prize money with the following.
Guess the cats out of the bag lol. I’ll be defending my title at the 2022 Arnold Classic. I want to give a special thanks to @schwarzenegger and the entire @arnoldsports team. I made it clear that I had no intentions of doing the show if the prize money stayed the same as this year. Thankfully they saw the value that Classic Physique brings and stepped up to the plate. From 7k to 60k for first place is a huge win for the division.
It’s clear that the show runners at the Arnold Classic are trying to set a new precedent. They are trying to pay the athletes what they deserve. It’s about time that these athletes earn a prize more fitting for the amount of dedication they put into their preparation.
