Sergio Oliva Jr. and Nick Walker Recent Beef Explained
Sergio Oliva Jr. and Nick Walker engaged in some serious beef.
Bodybuilding standouts, both looking to name for themselves got into a complicated beef. Sergio Oliva Jr. and Nick Walker had some back and forth online that sparking some beef between the two.
Beef makes the bodybuilding world go round it seems. Lately many bodybuilding competitors have been getting into some pretty heated exchanges online. In fact it seems as if Nick Walker continues to find himself in the middle of all these recent bodybuilding beefs. First it was Walker and Blessing Awodibu who had some beef ahead of the NY Pro. They have since put their rivalry to bed. But in the midst of that there appeared to be another beef brewing.
Nick Walker has since engaged in a bit of a back and forth with fellow Open Bodybuilding competitor Sergio Oliva Jr. The beef between the two appeared to have started because of some news revealed about Oliva.
During a podcast with Fouad Abiad, Nick Walker revealed that Sergio Oliva Jr. would not be competing at the Chicago Pro. It was news to everyone as Oliva had not commented on it himself. For that very reason, Oliva was pretty livid about the situation and decided to take his grievances to social media.
Sparked Beef
In the Instagram video Sergio Oliva Jr. explained that he trusted three people with the information. While he did not mention Nick Walker by name, the fact that bodybuilder had the info and shared it on the podcast would suggest that Oliva was speaking of Walker. This is speculation of course as nothing has been confirmed.
Sergio Oliva Jr. was certainly in his rights to be upset. As explained in the video it put him in a pretty bad spot from a business perspective to have the news break in that manner.
After this video dropped, Fouad Abiad left a pretty lengthy response in the comments. It revealed even more about what was going on between Sergio Oliva Jr. and Abiad. The two had a bit of a back and forth, both of them sharing their sides of the story.
So where does Nick Walker work into all of this? After all, so far it seems like the issue was between Oliva and Abiad. Well it appears that the beef between Walker and Oliva came to public fruition after a couple of social media posts made by the two.
Online Confrontation
It appears to have started with a post made by Sergio Oliva Jr. The caption in the post read as follows:
People get so upset when you say facts. I’m sorry I’m talking about your favorite bodybuilder. Doesn’t mean I’m lying when I say the shows have been weak. I’m not attacking anyone I said it’s not the winners fault they still killed it. I even said it’s no ones fault really. We all got screwed by COVID so people are getting their lives together and couldn’t do the beginning shows. But I just wanted to post this pic of @sas_heirati he got 5TH at NY Pro. This is what 5th place looked like.
Possibly in response to that post, specifically the notion of the shows being “weak” over the last year, Nick Walker posted the below.
Nothing weak coming in 17 weeks
Putting Things to Bed
From the looks of things, the beef has been heating up between the two. But it appears that Sergio Oliva Jr. tried to squash the beef in the comments of Walker’s post. They had a bit of a back and forth, but it appears like things have since calmed down.
The responses ended there, but it appears that Nick Walker recently commented in his stories saying that he and Sergio Oliva Jr. were now on good terms. It’s good to hear that the beef has been squashed, especially since the situation appeared for more personal than your usual trash talk. This situation was as much about friendship, family, and trust as anything else. To hear that things have since calmed down is certainly a positive outcome.
What do you make of this situation between Sergio Oliva Jr. and Nick Walker?

After Posting Cryptic Tweet, Is Phil Heath Prepping For a Show?
Phil Heath hints at making a return to action.
The internet is just chock full of surprises. One day you think a respected bodybuilding champion is retired, the next he Tweets something that turns your expectations upside down. Phil Heath dropped a Tweet that now has many speculating on a return to action for the seven-time Olympia champ.
After taking third place at the 2020 Olympia, Phil Heath has been pretty quiet. There has been little in the way of training footage of the seven-time Olympia champ. After all, Heath was never one to put too much of his training online. But it would seem that with the Tweet he made and some subsequent training footage being featured on his Instagram, something is clearly in the works.
Making a Return?
The speculation was sparked after a recent Tweet Phil Heath made last week. In the Tweet, Heath hints at making a return of some kind in eight weeks time.
Had to take it there for this chest workout!!!! Let’s go!!! #8wksOut pic.twitter.com/byP3cLto7H
— PHIL HEATH (@PHILHEATH) June 2, 2021
While this could mean just about anything from a guest posing to an appearance, some have speculated that the former Olympia champ is aiming to compete at the Tampa Pro. The show does indeed line up with the timeline that Heath mentions.
Phil Heath has also been hard at work in the gym. If a competition or a guest posing is in his future it would make sense that Heath would be building his body. Here we can see Phil Heath hitting arms with gusto.
22’s or better! ?????
Good Morning! I’m here at @armbrustprogym finishing up my 1am training?? thought why not come on here and shout out to my brother @armbrustdylan for always bringing in new equipment. If these walls could talk, as there has been MANY crazy training sessions here lol I’m always thankful to call @armbrustprogym my second home. Wishing you all a great day!
While nothing has been confirmed, Phil Heath is certainly getting pumped up about something. We’ll have to wait and see what that something is.
What do you think of Phil Heath potentially making a return to the stage?

Subscribe to the Generation Iron Podcast for candid, full length interviews with the biggest names in bodybuilding, fitness, combat, and strength sports.
During our recent conversation with Rich Gaspari, who was a commentator of the Mr. Olympia 2020, we went into detail about the results. Specifically, Gaspari believed that both Brandon Curry and Phil Heath had specific glaring weaknesses that ultimately led them to fall behind Big Ramy.
We asked for him to give us analysis and Rich Gaspari held nothing back. He also notes that he made these same observations during the actual competition before the results were called. While it was a close race, Gaspari knew what would lead to the downfall of both Curry and Heath.
According to Rich Gaspari, Phil Heath still had trouble with his stomach area. Not only that, but he had trouble preventing himself from fading as he was put through the comparison rounds. Gaspari points out that Phil is usually used to being brought out, being the obvious winner, and then being left alone by the judges. Here he had to fight harder and was put through far more comparison rounds than he is used to.
For Brandon Curry, Rich Gaspari points out that he had made many solid improvements in his upper body. When seen from the front, Curry looked unstoppable. But when he hit a side pose, Gaspari saw weaknesses in his lower half. His hamstrings and glutes just couldn’t compare to the likes of Big Ramy.
Based on the consistent improvements and hunger of Brandon Curry, Rich Gaspari isn’t counting him out to make a comeback at a future Olympia. He’s open to the fact that Curry just might return as an Olympia champion if he could further improve. For Phil Heath, Gaspari believes that it might be time to hang up the towel.

What Men’s Physique Needs To Change To Gain More Respect From Critics
During our interview we decide to ask Gaspari, what can the Men’s Physique division change in order to win over the respect of old school guys like Rich Gaspari? In his response, Gaspari had an idea. And surprisingly, it had nothing to do with the board shorts. Instead, he thought it had everything to do with the core of how Men’s Physique competitions work.
The Men’s Physique division doesn’t have traditional poses. Instead, their poses are more a natural standing position. The key goal of Men’s Physique is to showcase a stellar physique and conditioning in a natural state. No front double biceps or most muscular poses. While the athletes do tighten up and flex slightly in their natural pose – they cannot hide any weakness with a good angle on a mandatory pose.
Rich Gaspari respects that in theory. He understands how much harder it is to be a Men’s Physique athlete without being able to use angles to hide weaknesses like other divisions often do. Instead, a Men’s Physique athletes needs to bear it all out. They have to solely rely on the power of their physique.
And while Gaspari finds this impressive, he doesn’t find it exciting. He believes that allowing traditional mandatory poses similar to Men’s Open will make for a better competition. It brings drama and excitement to the stage. Rich Gaspari doesn’t have lack of respect for the athletes. Instead, he simply has lack of excitement for the competitions themselves.
Wrap Up
Rich Gaspari discussed far more topic than can be covered in one article. That’s why you can watch the full uncut hour long interview above. Get an in-depth look on Rich Gaspari’s insights and opinions on the recent trends in bodybuilding in our latest GI Exclusive!

Blessing Awodibu Pulls Out of Cali Pro, Squashes Beef with Nick Walker
Blessing Awodibu has decided to go back to the drawing board.
Blessing Awodibu won’t be competing at the California Pro. While he was set to step on stage at the show, Blessing has decided to pull out of the show. At the same time, it appears that he has squashed his beef with Nick Walker, giving the NY Pro winner a ton of credit for his dominant performance.
Blessing Awodibu got a pretty huge wake up call at the NY Pro. The popular bodybuilder looked to cement himself as an athlete to watch in his first two IFBB Pro League appearances. Instead it became obvious that Blessing still has some work to do before he can challenge the best of the best.
Pulling Out of the California Pro
A response to a post on social media confirmed that Blessing has decided to get back in the lab and work on his physique.
Blessing Awodibu will NOT be doing the upcoming California Pro.California is scheduled to take place in 2 weeks on the 29th.
After asking him if he plans on competing at Cali Pro, Blessing commented insinuating that he’s not competing anytime soon, perhaps taking a long off-season.“I’m going to take a little break and go back to school, I got work to do.”
While Blessing Awodibu had some high aspirations, it seems that he has decided to take some time off and regroup. Coming in at sixth place at the NY Pro has humbled him immensely it would appear. It was no doubt a learning experience for the popular bodybuilder.
The Beef is Over
Speaking of humbleness, it also appears that Blessing Awodibu has put his beef with Nick Walker to bed. The two had some pretty heated exchanges on social media during the lead up to the NY Pro. After Nick Walker dominated the competition at the show, Blessing felt compelled to give his rival praise.
Just cuz I’m a fan ?
@nick_walker39 aka the #mutant truly lived up to his name this past weekend at the #NYPro.Very honoured to have shared same stage with himWe went back n fourth at each other for the whole 10 weeks straight leading up to the NY pro show, to create hype, interest and excitement for the show. We had everyone talking and glued to bodybuilding for the whole 10 weeks which also allowed myself and Nick to work extra harder in the gym!
I was able to get in the best condition I’ve ever been only to have it all turn upside down a few hours before Indy Pro while Nick dashed to the finish line in style. This isn’t the end. Sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war and we will battle again! Round 2 is going to be ? Bodybuilding is in good hands. This is the new era!
This was pretty big of Blessing Awodibu to squash the beef with Nick Walker. It takes a level of humbleness and self awareness to not only realize when you’re beat, but that you have work to do.
While he may not have won the NY Pro, the future is still bright for Blessing Awodibu. We will see how he adapts in the future.

The 8 Best Bodyweight Exercises for the Back
The 8 Best Bodyweight Exercises for the Back
There’s a tendency to assume that back pain is a result of back problems. That’s sometimes the case as anyone with herniated discs in the lumbar spine can attest.
More often, however, the modern epidemic of back problems comes from our sedentary culture where spend too much time sitting. This shortens our hamstrings, locks up our hips, and creates muscle dysfunction throughout the body that translates into back pain.
That’s why to address back problems, we must attack the entire core region, turning to moves that open the hips and lengthen and strengthen our bodies, putting them back in proper alignment.
A back workout not only should produce that coveted V-shaped back but also create the core strength that will prevent long-term back ailments (to say nothing of back injury in the gym). Bodyweight back moves are especially effective as studies suggest they improve movement quality.
Here are eight bodyweight exercises that not only will strengthen the back but also keep us from developing back problems down the road.
Rib Opener
What it does: This move lengthens and strengthens the muscles of the chest and back, creating mobility in the thoracic spine.
How to do it: Lay on your left side with the left (bottom) leg straight and your right (top) leg at a 90-degree angle atop a foam roller. Your left hand is on your right knee. Reach your right arm across your chest as if pinning a newspaper to the chest. Pull your chest to the right, getting a good stretch. Hold for two seconds.
How many? 2 sets of 10 reps on each side.
Bow and Arrow
What it does: A variation on the rib opener that also strengthens the muscles of the chest and back, creating mobility in the thoracic spine.
How to do it: Kneel on your right knee and place a short foam roller between the side of your left knee and a wall. Bring your hands together in front of you and then extend your right arm fully back, similar to a yoga Warrior 2 pose but with palms facing out. Hold for two seconds.
How many? 2 sets of 10 reps on each side.
Pull Ups
What it does: No other move makes you feel like you’re building that V-shape back. You’re hitting the muscles of your upper back, along with the shoulders, biceps, forearms, and chest.
How to do it: Grab the bar with an overhand grip. Hanging from the bar, pull your shoulder blades back and down to lift your body, and build momentum. Finish by pulling up with your arms.
How many? 2 sets of 10 reps (or as many as possible) with 30 seconds rest between sets.
Backward Lunge with Twist
What it does: This move provides all of the benefits of a lunge while also giving you a great stretch of the back.
How to do it: With feet together, step back with your right leg into a lunge. Arch your back and twist your torso over your left (front) leg while reaching your right hand to the sky. Push out of that position into the next lunge.
How many? 2 sets of 10 reps with 30 seconds rest between sets.
Sliding Leg Curls
What it does: This move challenges your hamstrings as well as your glutes and lower back.
How to do it: Lie faceup on the floor with your arms at your sides, legs straight, and heels on a towel on a slippery surface (or while in socks on a smooth surface). Lift your hips off the ground, keeping a straight line from ankle to shoulders, sliding your heels to your body. Return to the starting position.
How many? 2 sets of 10 reps with 30 seconds rest between sets.
One-Arm, One-Leg Plank
What it does: This move challenges you to keep your back flat and stabilized.
How to do it: From a pushup position with forearms on the ground, push up off your elbows supporting your weight on your elbows. Tuck your chin so that your head is in line with your body. Lift one arm and opposite leg, hold for two seconds. Switch limbs.
How many? 2 sets of 10 reps (per side) with 30 seconds rest between sets.
Floor Ys
What it does: This move not only strengthens the back and shoulders, it counteracts the effects of sitting by pulling your shoulders back and down where they belong.
How to do it: Lie face down on the floor so that your back is flat. Squeeze your shoulder blades back and down and lift your arms above your head to form a Y, rising off the floor. Keep your thumbs up.
How many? 2 sets of 10 reps with 30 seconds rest between sets.
Half Locust
What it does: This yoga move strengthens the erector spinae muscles, which run on both sides of the spine from the pelvis to the upper back.
How to do it: Lie face down on the ground with arms by your sides. Inhale and lift your head and upper chest off the ground. Only lift a few inches, which should be enough to have everything above your breastbone in the air. Hold for two seconds and return to starting position.
How many? 2 sets of 10 reps with 30 seconds rest between sets.
