Urs Kalecinski Talks Body Fat w/ Greg Doucette, Must Lose 26 Lbs for 2023 Olympia
German bodybuilder Urs Kalecinski has emerged as one of the most promising talents in the Classic Physique division ruled by Chris Bumstead in the last few years. He was last seen in action at the 2023 Arnold Classic three months ago. In a recent YouTube video on his channel, Kalecinski teamed up with bodybuilding coach Greg Doucette to check his body fat levels and found out he would need to lose a minimum of 26 pounds of muscle mass to make weight for the 2023 Classic Physique Olympia competition.
Rising Classic Physique sensation Urs Kalecinski blew up on the scene courtesy of his refined muscle mass, size, detail, and symmetry in 2021. He narrowly missed out on the top prize to Mike Sommerfeld at the 2021 Xtreme Bodybuilding & Fitness Pro. He rebounded with a commanding victory at the 2021 Tampa Pro and finished his rookie season with a fourth-place finish at the Mr. Olympia show.
Kalecinski kicked off last year with a bronze medal at the 2022 Arnold Sports Festival. He scored a dominant win at the Boston Pro en route to 2022 Mr. Olympia. Last Nov., Kalecinski opened up on his plans to challenge four-time Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead with aesthetics and perfect proportions. He teamed up with bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler for a heavy shoulder and arm workout to get ready for the event.
Although the two are friends, Kalecinski admitted his rivalry with Cbum was real and that they considered each other enemies on stage. In the end, he established his place in the mix of title contention with a third-place finish at the 2022 Mr. Olympia behind runner-up Ramon Rocha Queiroz and four-time Classic Physique king, Chris Bumstead.
Following the outcome, Kalecinski set his sights on the 2023 Arnold Classic, where his goal was to defeat Ramon Dino. Despite falling sick to food poisoning five days before the showdown, Kalecinski turned in an impressive performance and placed second to Dino three months ago. Kalecinski teamed up with Bumstead for a muscle-building arms workout two days after the event. Then, he enlisted the help of Open legend Cutler for a brutal back workout.
Urs Kalecinski Needs to Lose a Minimum of 26 lbs of Muscle to Make Weight for 2023 Classic Physique Olympia
During the recent YouTube video, Urs Kalecinski revealed he weighs 275 pounds at 10.3 percent body fat. Considering his size, Urs would need to lose at least 26 pounds of muscle mass to make the Classic Physique weight limit for the 2023 Mr. Olympia.
“I can’t believe that this is Classic. This is ridiculous. I don’t understand how you’re not in Men’s Open,” said Doucette.
Urs Kalecinski expressed his excitement to face Ramon Dino in another battle at the 2023 Mr. Olympia last week. He declared his ambitions to seek redemption and revealed he’d cut down to 1,800 calories to prepare for the contest.
While Kalecinski is certainly going full-throttle in the off-season, it remains to be seen how he’d fare against top talent in the Men’s Open. Nevertheless, fans look forward to seeing him cut weight and make a play for Bumstead’s title.

Urs Kalecinski ‘Pumped’ for 2023 Olympia Showdown w/Ramon Queiroz, Says He’ll Cut to 1,800 Calories Daily
German native Urs Kalecinski is determined to bring a bigger and better physique to the 2023 Mr. Olympia stage. In a recent HD Muscle Podcast, Kalecinski discussed the game plan for his next appearance in November and life at 275 pounds.
“It would be cool – the first Classic guy at 300 pounds just for like clickbait reasons. It’s crazy, I don’t remember the last time when I wasn’t hungry,” shared Urs Kalecinski.
Kalecinski, one of the sport’s fastest-rising stars, continues to make strides as a competitor in the Classic Physique division. Fans quickly took note of his tight waist, symmetry, and lower body detail, which are weapons he’s already used to find success in the IFBB Pro League.
In 2021, Kalecinski won the 2021 Tampa Pro, and that victory paved the way for his first Olympia appearance. He was awarded fourth in his debut, something many took as a promising sign of his future. A year later, the 25-year-old earned third at the Arnold Classic, trailing behind two-time winner Terrence Ruffin and his rival, Ramon Queiroz.
Undeterred by that showing, he won the Boston Pro to earn a 2022 Olympia invite. Again, Urs set his sights on Brazilian powerhouse Queiroz and Chris Bumstead. While he brought an impressive physique to last year’s Olympia (2022), Kalecinski finished third. Kalecinski had another shot at taking down Queiroz in Columbus, Ohio, but was unable to claim Arnold Classic gold. With time to prepare for the year’s biggest event, Kalecinski sat down to discuss progress and preparations.
Urs Kalecinski Talks Struggles of Preps, Rivalry with Ramon Queiroz, & Diet Plan for 2023 Olympia
Kalecinski said his prep for 2022 Olympia was one of his easiest but encountered problems turning around two months later for the 2023 Arnold Classic. He mentioned that a bout of food poisoning affected his performance in Ohio.
“This prep [2022 Mr. Olympia] for the Olympia was so easy. You know those preps which doesn’t feel like prepping at all. I had energy till peak week. I was feeling bad because I’m not suffering so hard. I had cheat meals every four days because my metabolism was fire and no problem at all going to the weight limit. And then, what fuc**d up my whole life was the Olympia to the Arnold.
Because it was back-to-back I would say. It was only six or seven weeks. And I can’t do any breaks between it, so I had to keep continuing. My hunger and everything went skyrocketing. Then, imagine, you work your ass off and you don’t have a social life during prep, that’s normal, but then not only the social life but also feeling like dog shit every day. I didn’t have that in my whole life before. When you work so hard and then at the very end, you get fuc**ng food poisoning from chicken when I was flying,” said Urs Kalecinski.
After going to the hospital for blood work, Kalecinski said his coach warned him that a few markers were off. However, the problem was ultimately resolved.
“I went to the hospital, and did my blood work because my coach luckily he has a medical background and he’s very very good with those health things and he knows exactly how to handle this and he says, ‘Okay, some points are not good, like of course, your liver enzymes are not good and your cholesterol is not that good at the end of your prep.
The magnesium and other minerals are not in a good range then we need to stop this.’ Then, I prayed to God, ‘Please let it don’t be like this.’ At the end, it was good. We nailed it perfectly to the weight limit and then to filling back up. I had like three days with 1,000 grams of carbs for the carb-up. And I still wasn’t full at the prejudging.”
To combat Ramon Queiroz and Cbum on stage in November, Kalecinski shared that he bulked up to 275 pounds and looks forward to another meeting.
“It’s so crazy in Classic. It’s all about this one day or one two or three hours. Also in bodybuilding but I think in Classic it’s – it’s a bit harder,” said Urs Kalecinski. “My weight, yeah it’s 275 [pounds].”
“I can battle him [Ramon] and that’s what I’m pumped for this year. The fans and the people are going to see some good battle between us and that’s what I’m shooting for. Getting bigger and better. We’ve made some good improvements and also here – got some motivation back.”
Eventually, Kalecinski plans to cut his diet of 3,500 calories to only 1,800.
“Officially 16 weeks out but I tried to bring my weight down right now because where I want to go,” said Urs. “It’s crazy. I’m always hungry. I’m fuc**ng – yeah it’s crazy [I go from 3,500 calories] to 1,800.”
“That’s like a Bikini girl diet,” replied Antoine Vaillant.
According to Kalecinski, bodybuilders who want to make improvements sometimes need to ‘look like a bag of shit’ in the off-season.
“That’s like I said, that’s always what the people say, [switch to the Open] I swear to God, eight or 10 weeks, you’re going to see it everywhere, Urs is too shredded to be ready on stage. That’s what I like about the old days. Dorian Yates didn’t give a fuc*. I get tons of messages, ‘What happened to your fuc**ng face it’s blown up.’
I’m like, ‘Bro, back in the day everybody looked like this. Come on. It’s just Instagram where you see all the influencers being shredded all year-round but they don’t make improvements. To make improvements you need to look like a bag of shit in my opinion. Not the body, but when your face blows up,” said Kalecinski.
In a recent Olympia TV edition of Prime Time Muscle, esteemed Olympia judge Terrick El Guindy talked about the rivalry between German standouts Kalecinski and Mike Sommerfield. El Guindy went as far as to say that Urs wants to ‘beat the hell out of’ Mike when they meet again on stage.
There’s no denying ‘The Miracle Bear’s’ popularity in the IFBB Pro League. With a new and improved 275-pound physique, fans are curious how Kalecinski will compare to Ramon Queiroz and Classic Physique Olympia king Chris Bumstead later this year.

Chris Cormier, Olympia Judge: ‘Urs Kalecinski ‘Wants to Beat the Hell Out of Mike Sommerfield at 2023 Olympia’
Bodybuilding veteran Chris Cormier took a break from examining the Open class to discuss a few threats in the Classic Physique division. In a recent Prime Time Muscle podcast, Cormier and judge Terrick El Guindy opened up about the brewing rivalry between German stars Urs Kalecinski and Mike Sommerfeld.
The Classic Physique category has never been more exciting since its inception in 2016. Currently, Chris Bumstead sits atop the mountain, having earned a total of four consecutive Classic Physique Olympia titles. He took the reigns from two-time winner Breon Ansley in 2019.
Bumstead continues to defy the odds with steady improvements year-to-year. However, plenty of competitors have staked their claim in the division such as Brazil’s Ramon Queiroz, Mike Sommerfeld, and Urs Kalecinski. At last year’s 2022 Mr. Olympia competition, Urs Kalecinski managed to move up to third place from fourth the year prior. Meanwhile, Sommerfeld trailed behind ‘The Miracle Bear’ in fifth.
Given their competition history, Cormier and Terrick El Guindy insist a rivalry between the two has developed. In addition, they outlined what a battle may look like between Sommerfeld and Kalecinski later this year.
Chris Comier & Terrick El Guindy Talk Urs Kalecinski vs Mike Sommerfeld Rivalry
According to Terrick El Guindy, Kalecinski and Sommerfeld unfollowed each other on social media as a result of their heated competitive history.
“No, they unfollowed each other [Urs Kalecinski and Mike Sommerfeld] on Instagram. They don’t like each other. Yes, so that you know the history of these two competitors. Mike Sommerfeld and Urs Kalecinski… they competed, they came out of the IFBB Pro League in Mexico at the Tijuana Pro.”
“I’ve been able to judge that show the last two years, incredible event, we’ve crossed the border, he’s [the promoter] has a great hotel, great food and a lot of great competitors. On that specific day, Mike Sommerfeld beat Urs Kalecsinki. Everybody was impressed by these two German guys. Who the hell are they, they looked incredible.”
El Guindy added that Sommerfeld defeated Kalecinski at the Tijuana Pro, though Kalecinski got the upper hand on the Olympia stage.
“Going into the Mr. Olympia, obviously, Mike Sommerfeld was supposed to be the better one but it didn’t turn out like that. Urs Kalecinski impressed everybody and got in the top five and Mike Sommerfeld fell. So this whole year Mike Sommerfeld all he heard in Germany was how great Urs was, Urs this, Urs that, oh my God, Urs Kalecinski he’s the new guy, he’s the new Dennis Wolf, he’s the new this.
He probably got pissed off and fed up. He almost wanted to tell everybody, ‘I beat this guy in Tijuana. He just beat me once.’ It turned out that in the Mr. Olympia they faced each other, Sommerfeld was in the top five with Urs, and now the rivalry is real. You can’t just talk about Urs Kalecinski coming from Germany, you have to talk about Mike Sommerfeld,” said Terrick El Guindy.
Looking at both competitors as objectively as possible, Cormier said Sommerfeld had muscle maturity on his side whereas Kalecinski had more ‘upside’ due to his young age. Cormier believes Kalecinski still needs to add thickness to his arms.
“The thing is, I’ve kind of been in contact with both of these guys,” Cormier replied. “I’m friends with both of them. I try to help them with what I see they need help with, some posing, stuff like that. Nothing more than that, but just trying to be a helpful hand to the younger generation, you know. Well, I think the most upside is with Urs. The maturity is going to go with Mike, he’s probably a little bit thicker. Urs still has the thing… he needs to underuse those arm movements so much for me and he’s got to get those arms a little thicker.”
El Guindy implied that Sommerfeld posted comparison pictures next to Kalecinski to send a message to his rival.
“Comparison pictures with Urs Kalecinski [posted by Mike Sommerfeld] and all those pictures were beneficial to Mike. And obviously, he’s sending a message to Urs, ‘I’m better than you.’ Some people are very critical of Mike Sommerfeld, ‘You didn’t pick the right angles,’ you know how they do that,” said El Guindy.
“Urs is younger than that he’s like 24 or 25,” added Cormier.
Looking ahead, El Guindy predicts a tense on-stage showdown between Sommerfeld and Kalecinski in November.
“You want to be the best bodybuilder of that country. You talk to Rafael Brandao in Brazil, you mention any other bodybuilder he gets pissed, he’s like, ‘I’m the only one.’ Ramon Dino, he’s the only one. He doesn’t want anybody talking about anybody else. In Germany, you can’t just say that. There’s probably some following from Urs, probably some following from Mike Sommerifeld, and what the really want to do is shut that door. What Urs wants to do is beat the hell out of Sommerfeld at the next Mr. Olympia.”
Lastly, Cormier highlighted that former two-time Arnold Classic winner Terrence Ruffin will likely push into the top three at the 2023 Mr. Olympia show.
“I think so [Terrence will contend with Ramon Dino at 2023 Olympia]. He’s not that tall but he’s very good. He can make his body transform. He can make his body transform before your eyes.”
While they might be enemies when they compete, the division’s top contenders aren’t against training with each other during the off-season. Urs Kalecinski teamed up with Cbum recently for a brutal arms training session.
Considering their competition history, fans, especially those in Germany, are looking forward to seeing two of their country’s biggest stars compete at the most significant bodybuilding event of the year.

Urs Kalecinski And Jay Cutler Wreck A Potent Back Workout
Urs Kalecinski is leaving no opportunity to learn from the greats and recently partnered with Jay Cutler for an off-season back workout in Germany. Kalecinski is Germany’s flag bearer in the IFBB Pro League’s Classic Physique division. His emergence in the top end of the division has been astonishing and quick. After a few respectable performances, ‘The Miracle Bear’ finished the 2021 competitive season with a surprising 4th place finish at his Olympia debut.
He kicked off 2022 with a third spot at the 2022 Arnold Classic and secured a win at the 2022 Boston Pro, earning direct qualification to the 2022 Olympia. He also competed at the 2022 Kuwait Classic Pro to bag another win and walked away with a third-place finish at the 2022 Olympia.
Kalecinski last competed at the 2023 Arnold Classic Physique and managed to get a runner-up finish in spite of having to deal with food poisoning a few days before the show. He is now working relentlessly to build a more refined version of his body for the next competitive season.
Recently, he partnered with legendary bodybuilder Jay Cutler for a training session. A 4-time Mr. Olympia, Cutler is revered for his mindful approach to training. As a result, he was able to lead a much healthier life in retirement without having to put up with the consequences of an arduous bodybuilding lifestyle. He has accustomed well to the age of the internet and social media and remains one of the most prominent voices of the sport.
Cutler and Kalecinski did a back workout together. So let’s delve into the magical world of bodybuilding and see how they maintain their impeccable physiques with training.
Urs Kalecinski and Jay Cutler go through a back workout
The back workout was Kalecinski and Cutler’s second joint training session with each other. They partnered for a shoulder workout back in December 2022. Reminiscing the experience, Cutler stated:
“Last time we trained together… you were very depleted and it was one week out (of the 2023 Arnold Classic). So now we’re actually spending time together when we’re both in our off-season because I start my transformation on May 1st.”
With that, the duo jumped into the workout and pushed each other to do better throughout the session.
Lat Pulldowns
Cutler and his companion commenced the training session with lat pulldowns for stimulating the latissimus dorsi muscles. The duo worked with a plate-loaded iso-lateral machine to warm up the upper body posterior muscles and executed a few sets.
Bent Over Dumbbell Rows
Performing this compound movement is a crucial component of developing mass and strength in the upper posterior muscles. Bent over dumbbell rows engage all the pulling muscles and help with complete back development.
The bodybuilder duo pushed through some heavy sets of the movement as The Miracle Bear could not help but marvel at Cutler’s infectious enthusiasm.
“I love his work ethic. Close to 50 and still don’t give a s***” Urs Kalecinski exclaimed.
Machine Pullovers
This variation of pullovers has similar benefits as the cable pullovers. It has several benefits like improved mind-muscle connection, trunk and scapular stability, increased strength and muscle hypertrophy. Pullovers primarily work the lats and pectoral muscles. Cutler has spoken about the efficacy of pullovers for back development on many occasions. While Explaining the benefits of this exercise this time, Jay Cutler said:
“This is an ideal exercise to really bring out the v-taper which a lot of gyms don’t have.”
Cutler and Kalecinski absolutely wrecked some heavy sets of pullovers on a selectorized machine to bring that v-taper out and took to the next exercise.
While chatting with Urs and his associates during the workout, Cutler opined that Urs can definitely become an Olympia champion in future. He further stated that even if he doesn’t win right now, Urs is a fan favorite and has already captured the sport fans’ imagination.
“All it takes is for him to deserve it even if he doesn’t win or if he’s already winning. What I mean is he’s right there, he’s a fan favorite and if he spends more time in the US, he’s gonna dominate the US market too with popularity. He just needs to be there more,” Jay Cutler said.
He added:
“Here I see it. This is the first time I came to Germany for this interaction and every fan was there for him. I said who’s the best bodybuilder in Germany and they say Urs! And for that not to be an Open guy is a different world for me.”
T-Bar Rows
This compound movement contributes significantly to building a thick back. T-Bar row is a complete back exercise that works all the pulling muscles in the back. Cutler and Kalecinski cranked out a few high-volume sets of this exercise to stimulate the back muscles more before taking to the next movement.
Seated Machine Rows
The training partners next performed a few sets of machine seated rows to work the back muscles. It is an excellent way to build the back as stabilization is not required to perform the movement. Seated machine rows work all the major muscles like latissimus dorsi, rhomboids, erector spinae and trapezius. After going through some grueling sets of the movement, Cutler and Kalecinski worked with a vertical pulling movement next.
Bent Over Cable Straight Arm Pulldowns
The duo wrapped up the training session by getting some solid sets of this exercise under the belt. Straight arm pulldowns stimulate the latissimus dorsi, posterior deltoids, triceps brachii and teres minor muscles. Additionally, they activate the levator scapulae during the eccentric phase of the movement.
After performing a few sets of the movement, Jay Cutler and Urs Kalecinski called it a day in the gym.
The workout included following exercises:
Jay Cutler and Urs Kalecinski forced themselves to come to the gym in spite of having been through a tiring long day. Their growth and success can be attributed to the mindset of discipline and consistency. The 2023 competitive season is getting closer and looking at the intensity in training, we can certainly expect big things.

Terrence Ruffin And Urs Kalecinski Get Together For Massive Arm Workout
Terrence Ruffin and Urs Kalecinski continue to be contenders in Classic Physique and showed off a massive arm day.
Classic Physique has quickly turned into one of the most popular divisions in bodybuilding. The talent has gone beyond three-time Olympia champion Chris Bumstead. There are many who can contend on a year-to-year basis and this is why Classic Physique has a chance to take over the sport. Recently, two titans of the division, Terrence Ruffin and Urs Kalecinski, got together for a massive arm workout.
Ruffin is coming off his second-consecutive Arnold Classic title. Kalecinski was crowned champion at the 2022 Boston Pro. It is likely that both competitors will now focus on Olympia prep after top-five finishes in 2021 — Ruffin (runner-up) and Kalecinski (4th).
The workout video was shared to Terrence Ruffin’s YouTube page. Along with Urs Kalecinski, there was a huge workout put in at The Pro’s Gym in Columbus, OH.
“We got goals — Olympia December 2022, and I’m really excited to start making the improvements I need to make to be at my best at that show,” Ruffin said.
Terrence Ruffin and Urs Kalecinski kept it short and simple during this workout. It began with cable lateral raises to warmup. The bodybuilders did not reveal the number of sets or reps they completed during this workout.
The duo continued with triceps extensions. This exercise looked like an overhead cable triceps extension. This is because Ruffin and Kalecinski kept their elbows in front of their bodies and their arms were parallel to the floor. The workout ended with a superset of chest-supported biceps curl and seated biceps curl. The final set included a drop set on each exercise along with a static hold on seated bicep curls. And of course, the workout cannot be completed without a posing session where the bodybuilders conditioned their muscles for competition.
Bodybuilding in all divisions is about mass but Classic Physique includes other elements as well. They focus on conditioning along with symmetry of the muscles, including V-taper and a marrow waist.
Terrence Ruffin and Urs Kalecinski are reasons why Classic Physique is in an incredible spot moving forward. After victories this season, the sights are set on the 2022 Olympia, which will take place from Dec. 16-18 in Las Vegas. This workout is one example of the work that is being put in already.
