Jay Cutler on 2023 Mr. Olympia: “There’s So Many Big Names That Aren’t Qualified Yet”

Jay Cutler on 2023 Mr. Olympia: “There’s So Many Big Names That Aren’t Qualified Yet”

Jay Culter‘s interest in the Men’s Open division hasn’t fallen off since retiring in 2013. In a recent Cutler Cast podcast, Cutler discussed the lack of bodybuilders qualified for 2023 Olympia and revealed new details about transforming his body for a ‘Fit for 50’ challenge.

“The Pittsburgh Pro guest posing is going to be the tell-tale of what the Olympia will be,” Cutler said.

The Men’s Open class underwent dramatic shifts over the past five months, starting with the 2022 Mr. Olympia contest, which saw a new champion emerge as Hadi Choopan defeated Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay en route to becoming the first Iranian-born champion.

In March, the 2023 Arnold Classic finished with Samson Dauda’s hand raised. He faced top-three finishers Nick Walker and Andrew Jacked on his way to the victory. In light of the results, fans and bodybuilding mainstays like Bob Cicherillo have opened up on the results as some found them controversial. He believes Dauda presented a better combination of factors such as shape, aesthetics, proportions, and conditioning.

While keeping an eye on the division he was ruled over, Cutler believes any of the top four finishers from Columbus, Ohio could have won. Nevertheless, his eyes are shifting to bodybuilding’s next major event, the Mr. Olympia contest, scheduled for November 2-5, in Orlando, Florida. Cutler also provided further details on his latest ‘Fit for 50’ body transformation challenge.
Jay Cutler Eyes Breakthrough Talent in Men’s Open, Says 2023 Mr. Olympia Will ‘See a Lot of New Faces’
With less time to qualify for the Mr. Olympia contest compared to last year, Cutler believes there are a few big names that might not earn an invitation.

“I want to talk about how fast the years go because we have the Olympia and now we’re getting into the busy season where there’s a lot of these qualifying shows and we’re going to see a lot of these new faces.”

“There’s so many big names that aren’t qualified yet. But it’s going to just roll now. What I noticed while training for all those titles and I used to think I had the break after the Olympia and next thing you know, it feels like so long between the next year. Once you hit Spring and May hits, it was like – remember back then, it [Olympia] was like September or October. It seemed like it went by so fast.”

Having earned gold and his 2023 Olympia invite at the 2022 Bigman Weekend Pro, Brett Wilkin has the potential to make waves later this year. Cutler added that Justin Shier could serve as a breakout name during the season as well.

“Every week we’re going to be talking about – once we hit May, the shows just roll after that and there’s so many faces that aren’t qualified [there will be a lot] that don’t make it, yeah,” said Cutler. “You still have the Krizos, the Iains, who is going to be the breakout guy this year, is Brett Wilkins going to make a statement this year. I think Martin Fitzwater is sitting out. Who are we going to see, are we going to see Justin Shier breakthrough?”

Cutler ‘Not Satisfied’ With Current Physique: “The Fit for 50 Challenge Is Me Against Me”

In preparation for his next project, Cutler stopped consuming caffeine and plans to go ‘full tilt’ into training and nutrition in May.

“I quit drinking coffee. I’m actually scaling back a lot on the caffeine, even the pre-workouts, I’m mostly using the just stim-free pump pre-workout,” Cutler shared. “I’m going to go full tilt starting May into a – not a full deep deep preparation but as far as food, training, sleep patterns,” Jay Cutler shared.

“I’m giving myself about 12 weeks to get in shape. I’m actually relatively lean; I just don’t have a lot of fullness, so the diet is going to be huge. I actually just did blood work, which I’m actually going to show my results here which I should have today or tomorrow.”

“He [Mike O’Hearn] seems to be skipping out on the podcast. For you guys that follow Mike O’Hearn please give a shout-out to Mike and say hey when are you coming on the Cutler Cast. We’ve actually had him booked so many times now.”

While Jay Cutler is unsure of his ‘end goal,’ he hopes to achieve his best shape since 2013 without returning to old protocols and intense training.

“He looks absolutely amazing right, for me… I don’t know what the end goal is — I just know I’m not satisfied with how I look now. I don’t have a real prediction on what – people keep asking me what are you going to weight, what are you going to look like, I have no idea. This is all new to me. I’m not taking any more drugs or whatever else. I’m not going into the old protocols and I’m going to show that through my transition period. The Fit for 50 challenge is me against me. To be my best shape that I’ve been in since I retired in 2013.”

Cutler plans to show his audience he can transform his physique without going overboard in the gym.

“I don’t try to max out; I don’t want to risk any injury, the funny part is, I don’t want to train so bad that I’m super sore. That’s the crazy thing for this 50 challenge: I’m going to train like that without going overboard and show that you still can,” said Cutler.

As the 2023 season unfolds, Cutler anticipates a surge in high-level talent hitting the stage. They will be aiming for the ultimate prize: the Mr. Olympia title, currently held by Hadi Choopan.

‘It’s a 3-Headed Monster’: Phil Heath Reveals His Top Picks for 2023 Mr. Olympia

‘It’s a 3-Headed Monster’: Phil Heath Reveals His Top Picks for 2023 Mr. Olympia

Bodybuilding legend Phil Heath has developed a sharp eye for spotting talent based on years of competition. In a recent interview with Bob Cicherillo, Heath shared his thoughts on the frontrunners for the 2023 Mr. Olympia.
Phil Heath cemented his place in the record books with his cartoonish muscle mass, shape, and 3D delts. After taking runner-up at the 2010 Mr. Olympia, Heath took home his maiden Sandow trophy in 2011. He went on a dominant run at the top and racked up six consecutive title defenses till 2017. Besides his freakish physique, Heath developed an intense rivalry with perennial top contender Kai Greene, which is widely regarded as one of the most competitive in the history of the sport.
The 2022 season wrapped up with an exciting Mr. Olympia contest last December. Former two-time champ Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay got knocked off the throne by Hadi Choopan. Ramy came in looking visibly off and left the door open for the title to change hands. Former 212 Olympia champ Derek Lunsford shocked the world with a runner-up finish whereas rising sensation Nick Walker took bronze. Samson Dauda proved his potential with a sixth-place finish in his debut.
Following the Olympia, Walker, Dauda, Ramy, and Andrew Jacked battled again in Ohio for the 2023 Arnold Classic. While Walker was the betting favorite going into the event, Dauda turned in a fantastic performance to edge him out for the title. His win put him in a prime position to claim victory at the upcoming 2023 Mr. Olympia.

Given the change in the hierarchy of the Men’s Open division, there is a ton of excitement for the biggest fitness showcase in the world.
Coach Milos Sarcev believes Dauda has what it takes to become the next Mr. Olympia despite the competition he’ll face from Choopan and Lunsford. He said Dauda should add thickness to his back. Bob Cicherillo expressed a similar sentiment when he backed ‘The Nigerian Lion’ to win it all if he came at his best.
Phil Heath backs Hadi Choopan to defend the crown at the 2023 Mr. Olympia
In a recent YouTube video, Phil Heath shared his thoughts on the competition for the 2023 Mr. Olympia. He backed reigning champ Choopan to successfully defend the title.
“I think Hadi’s a repeat champion,” said Heath. “I do and here’s why. You got to look at someone’s origin, champions have a specific origin of how they got here in the first place. You think of someone that has grown up in that environment in Iran. Everything matters. This thing means everything to him and his country. There’s a lot of expectations but he’s met those expectations in a very quick period of time. He’s never really been off.”
“It’s going to be Hadi all day because he’s got the maturity. We don’t know what this dude looks like right now. He’s in the freaking gym. He would’ve did the Arnold if he was able to. That’s freaking scary. He doesn’t give a sh*t about what anyone has to say. He is in that gym more passionately present than anyone right now.”
Derek vs Hadi
Heath reveals his top contenders & defends Big Ramy
Phil Heath believes Walker, Lunsford, and Dauda are also in the mix of title contention.
“It’s a three-headed monster at this point. It’s either Derek, I can make a case for Nick, Nick is an anomaly, he’s very different. If there was a way for Nick to do what Branch did in 09, then it’s a clear cut. It’s him and Hadi going at it. It’s going to cancel out a lot of guys because of the density and muscle maturity because those two won’t be out-conditioned. The cool thing about Derek is now he’s comfortable in that Open body. He’s a hard worker, got a good support system, a good coach”
“If Samson Dauda actually gets a little bit more density in the back, he’s extremely dangerous. He’s got the legs, hamstrings, if he can get more 3D in that back it is a problem because he’s taller and bigger. I do think Olympia this year is very competitive and I hope all of them stay healthy.”
‘The Gift’ came to the defense of Big Ramy and pushed back on some of the criticism thrown his way.
“What we need to learn is stop hype focusing on the bullsh*t because you’re actually tarnishing an incredible legacy. If a Ferrari has a scratch on the hood it’s still freaking jumping. Quit making it seem like it’s ruined. That’s what’s happening with critics on Ramy and other people. I’m just saying we should still appreciate the physique that we’re seeing. Thee judges are going to do what they’re doing so I’m not bent about it.”
Earlier this month, Samson Dauda left fans stunned with his impressive package in a guest-posing appearance at 10x Ben Weider 2023, teasing what is to come on the horizon.

Speculation surrounding a Jay Cutler comeback to the 2023 Masters Olympia is at an all-time high. Jay Cutler Hints at 2023 Masters Olympia, ‘I Could Transform This Body With No Drugs’ Except TRT

Speculation surrounding a Jay Cutler comeback to the 2023 Masters Olympia is at an all-time high. In a recent JayCutlerTV appearance, Cutler detailed his gym goals and laid out how he could transform his physique using nutrition, training, and testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).
Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler proved himself as one of the best Men’s Open talents throughout the 2000s, having faced several high-caliber opponents. Perhaps his biggest accomplishment was dethroning the eight-time Mr. Olympia titleholder Ronnie Coleman in 2006. During his reign, Cutler lost to Dexter Jackson in 2008 and returned a year later to avenge the defeat, cementing himself as the only Men’s Open bodybuilder to ever win back a Mr. Olympia title.
Cutler’s last competition came at the 2013 Mr. Olympia, where he finished sixth. While he stepped away from competing, Cutler’s notoriety in bodybuilding hasn’t diminished. Last year, suspicions about a potential return swirled when Cutler’s physique went viral posing and training alongside fitness influencer Lexx Little.

However, Cutler shot down any chance of returning to a ‘competitive stage.’ Instead, he declared his recent gains in the gym were part of a ‘Fit for 50’ physique transformation. He planned to facilitate the transformation using TRT while avoiding substances like Trenbolone.
The Masters Olympia announced its return after an 11-year absence. While Cutler has yet to mention whether he will be in attendance or compete, speculation continues to mount especially considering the latest improvements to his physique.
Jay Cutler Measuring Food Again, Says ‘Training Doesn’t Have to Be ‘Balls to the Walls’ for Transformation
During the video appearance, Cutler mentioned that he was measuring his food again and shared his recent breakfast.
“So I measured my food this morning. A cup and a half of egg whites, I had some pineapple, 50 carbs of rice and grinds, which is cream of rice, two Ezekiel slices of bread, a little bit of low-fat cottage cheese, and I had what else — two whole eggs.”
“I need to change the pace a little bit especially if I’m going to go into this thing in May and start really – you know, I really want to dedicate myself and really transform my physique. To be honest, when I took my shirt off last time on video, it really gave me a lot more motivation because you see what you look like on video – obviously, the feedback, people have been, ‘Oh, Jay looks great.’ But to me, honestly, I thought I looked like crap. I was disappointed. There’s a physique I want and that physique I want isn’t anything like the Olympia physique.”
According to Cutler, he could transform his physique with proper nutrition, training, and TRT.

“I saw comparisons where they put me next to ’09 and you know, people are like, ‘Whoa, you’re that many years retired. No man, this is my life. This is what I do. Granted, you know my meal schedule and that’s really – I’m going to stress it over and over, if I actually ate my six meals a day, which I believe is really necessary for anyone preparing for a contest – some will say five meals, some can do three, Andrew Jacked does it with three or four meals,” says Cutler.

If he consumed six meals daily and trained with ‘enough’ intensity, Cutler reiterated that he could dramatically transform his physique. He implored his audience to listen to their body and to make training adjustments accordingly.
“I think honestly, I literally could transform this body, no drugs, nothing. I mean, obviously, I’m going to use my TRT. It’s all food. It’s all dedication to the training and training with enough intensity. That training doesn’t have to be balls to the wall. You’re going to have days where you train really hard, and anyone training right now – speaking to my whole audience, whether it’s male, female, age brackets from young to older, you should have days where it’s turned up and have days where it’s turned down. You make adjustments based on how you feel.”
“I don’t know if they’ve drawn the names yet [for Masters Olympia],” added Cutler.

Jay Cutler’s Latest ‘Fit for 50’ Workout List

Before calling it a day, Jay Cutler practiced posing and admitted to looking leaner. It should be noted that bodybuilding guru Chris Aceto doesn’t believe Cutler is on the verge of a competitive return. In a recent RxMuscle interview, Aceto said Cutler would ‘never’ make a comeback to Masters Olympia but added that he looked incredible ahead of turning 50.
Even though the Masters Olympia roster has not been announced, there are athletes who have expressed interest. Former 212 Olympia Kamal Elgargni says he’s considering the event if the ‘prize is right.’ Last month, the 2000s 212 and Open standout Hidetada ‘Hide’ Yamagish laid out his plan to come out of retirement at 50 for one final competition.

Chris Bumstead And Hadi Choopan Annihilate A Quads Workout As 2022 Olympia Prep Continues

Chris Bumstead And Hadi Choopan Annihilate A Quads Workout As 2022 Olympia Prep Continues

Chris Bumstead recently trained with Hadi Choopan to be stronger and ‘not be a skinny b**ch’. Bumstead is one of the most successful competitors in the Classic Physique division of the IFBB Pro League. The Canadian phenom won the Classic Physique Olympia title by dethroning former champion Breon Ansley at the 2019 Olympia. He then went on to defend it at the 2020 and 2021 Olympia. CBum has dealt with a number of challenging situations in his preparation for the 2022 Olympia, and he is one of the favorites heading into the competition. Iain Valliere, an open-division bodybuilder, and close friend has been coaching Bumstead so far. However, the duo announced the end of their ‘coach-client relationship’ a few weeks back. Although difficult, both men understood it was a wise decision for Valliere’s career.Bumstead is now training under famed bodybuilding coach Hany Rambod and recently partnered with Hadi Choopan, who is also training under Rambod. Choopan is a top contender in the Men’s Open division. He last competed at the 2021 Olympia and finished third behind champion Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay and runner-up Brandon Curry. ‘The Persian Wolf’ has managed to pull off excellent performances in spite of travel restrictions and language barriers. Choopan arrived in the USA seven weeks out of the 2022 Olympia to train with Rambod. He will attempt to dethrone the reigning champ and stake claim at the Mr. Olympia title in 2022.Chris Bumstead and Hadi Choopan went through the legs workout in Southlake, Texas on November 19th under Hany Rambod’s guidance. The video of this session was posted on Bumstead’s personal YouTube channel. Let’s check out how the duo nailed leg day.Chris Bumstead and Hadi Choopan crush a leg workoutLeg ExtensionsCBum and Choopan started the workout with leg extensions to isolate the quads and warm up the knee joints. While it is one of the most common quad isolation movements, leg extension can be harsh on the knees if not done properly. It is advisable to avoid locking out the knees completely during this movement. The duo got a few sets of this exercise under the belt and took to the first heavy compound movement of the day.Smith Machine SquatsThe quad-focused workout continued with Smith Machine squats. Weights on the Smith machine move along a fixed trajectory and this reduces the need to control the weights significantly. Coach Rambod instructed Hadi to do the front squats while CBum did the back squats.“Because I want you to work on your hips a little bit and we’re going to do back squats… Because that’s going to be easier for you and that’s how your biomechanics are dialed in,” Rambod told Bumstead. The duo performed all the sets under Coach’s watchful eye with slow and controlled movement and jumped into the next one.Hack SquatsCBum and his Persian friend worked the quads further on the hack squats machine. Hack squats are a compound movement that works all the major muscles in the lower body. However, quadriceps are the primary focus while hamstrings and glutes take up a more supporting role. After doing a few warm-up sets, they increased the load on the machine and cranked out heavy working sets of hack squats to fire up the quads.“This is the point in my prep where I’m still moving heavy weights but I’m trying not to kill myself. Hany is really trying to stress not to kill myself here. It’s trying to control the reps and not go super heavy. I’m going like a plate or two lighter than I normally would…” Bumstead said. While speaking about how training with Hadi Choopan feels, CBum said:“I trained my whole life with Iain (Valliere). So I always train like an Open bodybuilder. I’m training for the Open as always. But training with Hadi reminds of training with Iain who’s stronger than me. So they’re actually doing the same weight on front squat as I do on the back squat. So it really pushed me to actually be stronger and not just be a skinny b**ch!”Leg PressCoach Rambod then took his pupils to the leg press machine and instructed to perform a few heavy sets to stimulate the quads. Hany explained the mechanics of the machine used here and said:“This is an older leg press machine and it has a very steep angle. So it’s naturally much heavier than a regular leg press machine that does not have such a steep angle. Therefore when you start to fatigue, it just ends up becoming absolutely much much heavier than the normal because you have a very steep angle…”Walking LungesCBum and Choopan worked their quads with the walking lunges. Being the bigger and stronger of the two, Choopan did lunges with barbell while Bumstead did lunges with dumbbells. After doing a few sets of this exercise, the duo did some hamstrings, quads, and adductor muscles work.Seated Leg CurlsThe Persian Wolf and Bumstead took to the seated leg curls to work the hamstrings next. Seated leg curls offer a better range of motion and are thus more effective for inducing hypertrophy compared to lying leg curls. The duo did a few sets of this movement and took to another movement.Standing Calf RaisesChoopan and Bumstead sprinkled a little bit of calf work in the mix and did the standing calf raises. This exercise works the gastrocnemius muscle in the calves. After performing some quick sets, the duo took to the final exercise of the day.Hip Adduction MachineThe adductor muscles are a group of muscles that adduct (bring together) the thighs. Some of the adductor muscles also extend or flex the hips and stabilize the pelvis and trunk while standing on one leg. The duo did a few sets of this movement and wrapped up the training session.Overall, the workout included:Chris Bumstead and Hadi Choopan have a similar goal at the 2022 Olympia but their path to victory and the stakes are completely different. CBum will attempt to create history by winning the fourth consecutive Mr. Olympia Classic Physique title. He has to defeat formidable opponents like Terrence Ruffin, Urs Kalecinski, and Ramon Rocha Queiroz to achieve this. However, Bumstead is looking absolutely jacked in his recent physique updates and experts believe he will be the biggest guy in the division at the 2022 Olympia. On the other hand, Choopan has to beat veteran bodybuilders and hungry up-and-comers to wear the 2022 Olympia crown. Irrespective of how the results turn out, it is going to be fierce competition to reach the top spot. You can watch the full workout video here, courtesy of Chris Bumstead’s personal YouTube channel:

Hunter Labrada Smashes A Massive Leg Day Workout En Route To The 2022 Olympia

Hunter Labrada Smashes A Massive Leg Day Workout En Route To The 2022 Olympia

Hunter Labrada is switching things up in the last stretch of the 2022 Olympia prep to bring a fully conditioned physique to the stage. American professional bodybuilder Hunter Labrada is one of the top contenders of the IFBB Pro League’s Men’s Open division. He is the son of legendary bodybuilder Lee Labrada and has inherited his love for bodybuilding from his parents. The 30-year-old rose to prominence with wins at the 2020 Tampa Pro and the 2021 Chicago Pro. He last competed at the 2021 Olympia and achieved a fourth-place finish. Labrada will attempt to improve his standing at the 2022 Olympia where he is set to go up against a stacked roster. The efforts poured into the competition prep are bearing fruits as he looks to be in amazing shape in his recent physique updates. The 2020 Tampa Pro winner recently went through a full leg day workout. The video of this session was uploaded on Hunter Labrada’s personal YouTube channel. Let’s look at how he trained his legs now.Hunter Labrada goes through a demanding leg workoutLabrada is entering the final stage of his prep five weeks out of the 2022 Olympia.“Things have changed a little bit. We’re at a point where I am fragile enough that I am not fullsending sets into oblivion, especially on legs,” Labrada said about his present training regimen. The 30-year-old has added volume and intensity to his training with rest-pause methods and drop sets. The goal is to keep the output high and bring a fully conditioned physique to the stage. Labrada’s current training split includes:Push DayPull DayArms DayLegs DayRest DayPreviously, the 2020 Tampa Pro winner was training the legs once every nine days. However, he feels comfortable to train every muscle group once every five days as he is not going too heavy in the workouts.“We’re at a point right now where every time I touch (the legs) and they improve. So the increased frequency with a decreased amount of weight to lead to failure in ten sets… I think that’s good for my legs. So looking forward to pushing hard and finishing this out strong…”Seated Leg CurlsLabrada started the training session with this hamstring isolation movement. The seated leg curls are one of the most recognized lower body movements around the world. This exercise helps tremendously with warming up the knees. Therefore they make for an excellent first exercise in a lower body workout. The Labrada Scion did a few sets of this exercise and took to the next exercise.Leg ExtensionsAfter filling the hamstrings with blood, Labrada targeted the quadriceps with leg extensions next. Leg extensions are undoubtedly effective in developing quadriceps, but they can be detrimental to knee health if not performed correctly. Hunter Labrada cranked out a few solid sets of this exercise before taking up the first compound movement of the day.Pendulum SquatsThe pendulum squat is a compound movement that primarily focuses on developing quads and glutes. However, they can be made more hamstrings focused by modifying foot placement.Labrada got a few sets of this exercise under the belt to fire up the legs.Walking LungesThe 2021 Chicago Pro winner next took to the walking lunges. This compound movement strengthens the legs as well as the core, glutes, and hips. Labrada pushed through a few sets of walking lunges and jumped into the next one.Hip Adduction MachineThe adductors are a group of muscles in the inner thigh. They are responsible to adduct (bring together) the thighs and stabilizing the pelvis trunk when you stand on one leg.Hunter Labrada got a few good sets of this exercise under his belt and took to the final exercise of the day.Standing Calf RaisesLabrada wrapped up the training session by adding stimulus to the calves. The standing calf raise works the gastrocnemius muscles as seated calf raises that work the soleus muscle that lies underneath it. Labrada trained his gastrocnemius muscles with standing calf raises and wrapped up the training session.Overall, the workout included:Hunter Labrada’s father Lee Labrada recently stated that Hunter will retire from competitive bodybuilding once he wins the Mr. Olympia title and focus on his life after bodybuilding. However, winning the title this year is a Goliathan task for every competitor. The roster is filled to the brim with high-level talent working towards a common goal. Veteran bodybuilder Samir Bannout recently predicted the top five bodybuilders at the 2022 Olympia and Labrada’s name does not appear in that list. However, the 30-year-old is training hard to beat the competition. It will be interesting to see what the scorecards show on Dec. 18.You can watch the full workout video here, courtesy of Hunter Labrada’s personal YouTube channel:
