I deal with both sleep & anxiety issues, so I know how it can impact pretty much everything you do EVERY day! I have been working out pretty consistently for the last decade & I understand well how bad a lack of sleep can affect recovery. It flat out becomes miserable! I threw anxiety in with the topic because anyone who has that, knows that it go's hand & hand with sleep as well. If you have 3 or 4 things on your mind that you are anxiously waiting to see how they get resolved... It's hard to sleep! If you get things on your mind or just can't sleep for whatever reason, a lot of people would suggest going for a jog or doing something to wear off extra energy. That may work for some, but that DEFINITELY doesn't work for me! Just winds me tighter & get's my adrenaline going. That's usually when I start getting angry about it lol
I have recently been considering meditating. I would have never thought that would be something I would want to do, but the more I think about it... the more it makes since! To me, it seems like you are essentially doing what you would be doing in bed by trying to relax, but wouldn't be focusing so much on why ya can't sleep. Relaxing is really the only option for me!
I have tried several meds, including pharmaceutical grade stuff through prescription. To many issues come with the stronger meds & is habit forming. Even harder to sleep when ya get off of it! High dose of otc sleeping aids are the same way. I have found out that valerian root works a little some times, but is very mild. Ai's work surprising well! There has been a couple times in the past during pro-hormone usage I used them & I noticed a better sleep pattern almost right away! Although, I wouldn't think it would be a good idea to use an ai just for that reason on a regular basis, but what do I know??
I actually blame a lack of sleep for some additional wear & tear picked up over the last several years. I don't think I healed right all the time & it has continued to get worse. This is another reason why I think 2 on 1 off is a good training schedule for me. I think it is a good idea to use that rest day to sleep in if possible & would be a good time to take a med if ya have one. Don't know how many out there deal with similar issues, but maybe something here will help. As always, I'm open for suggestions!
