Cracking Shoulder Joints: Relief and Treatment
By George Touliatos, MD
Q: I’ve been suffering cracky shoulder joints. What can I do to heal it?A: First and foremost, you need to have an MRI to assess any possible injury. Usually, the rotator cuff is injured. Also, arthritis of the shoulder joint, the bones that articulate distal humerus and scapula surfaces. You can improve symptoms by certain methods. First, apply dry ice post-workout. Always protect your skin with a cotton pad, avoiding burning from ice. The use of NSAIDs should be limited since they stress the kidneys and stomach. Moreover, they blunt muscle inflammation. Cortisone can provide comfort and suppress inflammation; however, you have to use it briefly and taper down the dosage (HPA axis). A new generation of peptides are able to heal connective tissue and muscle tears. BPC-157 and TB-500 can provide recuperation and healing. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a new method that involves infusion of growth factors inside the joint. Initially they drop blood, which later is enriched. This is supposed to heal and form new tissue. Physical therapy with ultrasound that might smooth discomfort locally. The use of nandrolone decanoate can trigger an influx water into the synovial cavity. Best combined with TRT, this can smooth the aches. Finally, a plethora of supplements such as glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, shark cartilage, hyaluronic acid, collagen peptides, lysine, proline and turmeric. In case all these methods fail, then surgery seems obligatory.
