Energy balance

Bently

When it comes to gaining or losing weight, everybody is obsessed with how many calories they consume, but that's only half the story. Changes in body weight are not governed by energy consumption, but by energy balance. There are two sides to the balance equation: energy consumption and energy expenditure. Many people overlook the expenditure side of the equation, because they don't understand it. Obviously you will have more control over your body if you learn to control both sides of the energy equation, instead of just one.

Absolutely my man.

I just had a long talk about this point with my sister tonight.

You have to take into account your BMR and what your calorie balance will be at the end of any given day..... Not just how many calories you consumed....

yeah, for this to done accurately though, one would need to write down everything they eat/ate. you have to keep up with everything as accurately as possible; this will allow you to fine tune your program

I'm doing this now, it's kind of a pain but it's worth it. When I have a bad day in the gym or I feel real tired, I'll look at my meals for that day and the day before to see if there's something out of whack.

Does anyone has a good computer program that allows you to track this info? We have used Life Form in that past. Just curious if anyone is using anything?

i'm using excel right now and it's kinda a pain in the arse!!

i list all of the foods i generally eat and then use formulas to look the food up and the nutritional info. Then I add up the day.

I'd be interested in using something else that might make it easier.

I'll post a separate thread with this question.
