Feeling Tired and Sluggish? Could Be Low Testosterone

Q: I’m feeling lethargic, tired, fatigued and sluggish. In one word, miserable. What could be the reason for this?A: This could be multifactorial. First, hypothyroidism. You clarify this by TSH ( >4.5) and elevated anti TPO, TG that imply inflammation known as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Also FT3, FT4 have to be low. Then we have anemia with low hemoglobin and low serum iron levels. Moreover, low folate, cobalamin can explain the lack of endurance and poor stamina. Furthermore, low calciferol can be the reason for inadequate performance in the gym. Levels of 1,25(OH) D3 should be >50. Then we have lack of sleep, something fundamental for recovery. This is diagnosed by elevated cortisol (a.m.). Low carbs and caloric deficit as well definitely make you feel weak during dieting. Another factor is overtraining when CK >1,000. This equals muscle catabolism and absence of recovery.
Finally, the most significant reason is low testosterone. Both TT, FT and elevated SHBG. Hypogonadism in men is the main reason for feeling drained and disabled, accompanied by low GH levels too. This is associated with insulin resistance that leads to cravings and lack of energy.
