How important is strength

I know that BB isn't really about strength trainnig or trying push crazy weight all the time, but I never wanted to be one those big guys at the gym that can't even bench 300 lbs or barely curl 50lb dumbells. To me strength is just as important as looking like could bench press a buick. I know some prob dnt see it this way, but why weigh 290lbs and not be able to push some meaningful weight?????

I think its on the individual and what they want to do. I just set a goal to bench 400 and at 30 yrs old this might be my last shot at it. I've been injury prone the past year

I'm the exact opposite Zeus, I'm a weak some of a bitch but people think I'm really strong. I could honestly care less how much I lift (well most of the time) as long as I'm growing. And just because a person isn't very strong doesn't mean they don't train hard. Honestly, this is the main reason why I'm training strictly at home now. I don't want to feel the peer pressure of having to lift a crazy amount of weight (for me) or take a chance of being called a pussy and listening to all the bullshit from the group of guys that trained at the same time I did.

I think most bodybuilders are strong but not powerlifting strong. Everyone I know that was into heavy lifting got hurt, I mean everyone. Now none of them lift. Ive been working out in gyms since the 80's. Personally I dont care how much someone can lift. However people that do lift heavier have a more better look to them and you can really tell. More so if they built up a good base prior to using enhancements. Guys that just started using gear right away dont look that good and I can always tell. Two older guys at my gym I mean in there 60s, one is a power lifter and he is a big fat guy. The other trains light and he looks great, but hes looked great for 20 years. I would take the looked great guy's physique.

I dnt think not lifting heavy makes anyone a pussy and if I ever heard someone say that to one of my BB bros or sisters I would explain to them how fckn ignorant that is. I am in no means a power lifter, but I am BB strong. I dnt always lift heavy. One week I focus more on stretching the muscle fascia and blood volume and the next week is all out war!!!! This helps keep me from injury. Although, I very rarely ever get hurt from lifting. I can thank all the years of gymnastics for that..

Hi Zeus,
Strength training is a concerted effort to use resistance or weights to work a muscle group. Strength training increases muscle mass and muscle burns more calories than fat. Strength training slow down muscle loss that accompanies aging and increase bone density. Strength training increase joint flexibility and reduce pain from arthritis, improve balance and old injuries.
