Looking at getting a new vehicle

for those of you that have diesels made 2007 or younger

what kind of mods do you have?

I'm getting ready to put a breather kit and cold air intake on my Dodge Ram 2500 6.7

the next project will be to get an H & S tuner-then do an EGR and DPF bypass
 
Mine are both newer, but I deleted the DPF and all the exhaust stuff right away. I blocked the EGR until I can remove it and I rerouted the PCV. Getting all the exhaust stuff out made a huge difference.
Programmer and straight exhaust will make a HUGE difference. My wife's is pretty quick stock, but mine was a DOG.

I'm not sure what a breather kit is. Also on the Duramax, the intake isn't a restriction until 500rwhp. Are you sure its a restriction especially with stock tuning? I would definately do the DPF delete and a tuner first.
 
breather kit is cheap $40

there is a tube that goes from the CCV to the turbo and all the diesel and oil crap gets flushed into the turbo with hope that the turbo will burn it off (EPA crap)

all that does is crap out the turbo in the long run-the breather kit allows the excess fumes to enter the air and not your turbo

the newer diesel trucks have routed that tube to the exhaust to allow the catalytic converter to burn it off

That's the PCV. It's routed to the turbo on the Duramax. I had to install new billet valve cover fittings then ran it to the bottom of the frame. Very worthwhile mod.

assuming you used a hose to run it down-problem with that for me is that I work in cold climates and I've heard rumors that if you use a hose and it freezes it will cause blow back through the oil stick

Ew.... I've heard that too, but I don't have any direct experience as I live in Fl now and will only be moving to TN. Ya, that's a tough decision. I've heard its BS, but there has to be some one that experienced it for the whole thing to have been started. I know I get VERY little oil drip... So I would think that the hose would be thawed enough in a few minutes after start up, but I wouldn't bet my motor on it
On my previous supercharged applications I replaced the oil dipstick with a breather, but there is always the issue of positive or no crankcase pressure and I know nothing of this in a diesel application. I do KNOW that the PCV sends OIL and not just fumes into the turbo so you have to do something about it

in TN it shouldn't be a problem, it's usually caused from moisture and the upper northern states like NY-really cold weather
 
also, with PCV on the Chevy-did you delete the filter or keep it?

the guys that have had problems with the hose freezing were all due to being in sub freezing climate and deleting the filters

I've kept my CCV filter because I don't want a mess all over the place-yeah I have to replace it 30-40,000 miles but it's better than an oily slob on my drive way or under my hood

We don't have any filter on the PCV. We has a diesel Particulate Filter on the exhaust that we just delete and then tune out the codes, but that's is. On the PCV its just new Valve cover fittings with new hose and a T fitting that them runs to the frame to drip out. The EGR is a whole nother issue though. Its like $600 for an EGR delete tube and a new up pipe
 
Do you have any pics? Despite what you read, I like all things diesel. Ford, Dodge, Chevy, whatever... I'm pumped to see the new Nissan Titan diesel!
