WOW I have no idea how i got involved in this whole thing.
My comment was simply suggesting I would choose a Burnese Mountain Dog if I were to get a dog.
However it is a proven fact that dogs have different temperments.
Different Dogs have specific traits that are linked to the breed.
Border Collies herd sheep. They continue their herding instinct even in a family home.
Rotweillers were bred to protect. They have a protection instinct.
I don't believe that it is the dogs fault that it attacks people. I think it is about irresponsible owners. The sad fact is that alot of the wrong owners choose dogs such as Rotweillers, Pitbulls because of their rough and tough image.
As far as believing theres no such thing as bad dogs just bad owners and if the dog is properly trained a problem wont ever occur, period I disagree. Dogs have instincts. Dogs react to situations differently. Dogs have different temperments. To think that your dog is never going to do anything wrong is the wrong attitude. It makes you oblivious to what could happen depending on situations.
In Ontario they have banned the sale of pitbulls. And i agree with this. The fact is if you look at the statistics there are way more attacks involving pitbulls than any other dog breed. Whether it is the owner or the dog or a combination of both something is occurring which caused a huge number of attacks and deaths.
I just think that you have to choose the breed that is best for your family and your situation. If I had kids i would choose a smaller dog or a dog that has a more relaxed temperment.
www.akc.org has a list of breeds and temperments if anyone is interested.
