Of course that's not what I'm proposing. What I am saying is that Obama has set the stage for this to happen by his stated positions and subsequent actions. By setting a deadline to pull US troops out of Iraq, he created a situation where the Islamists knew all they had to do was bide their time and wait. In fact, what they did was find a new base from which to operate, get better organized, better trained, stronger and renew efforts to retake the area once they knew it was safe to do so.
Obama, like most Liberals, abhors the military. The most current example of this besides Obama is Hillary, who has stated as such when her husband, who also unashamedly hated the military, was president. So, as was the case with the Clintons, the military has been defunded. This (obviously, both here and abroad) has the effect of weakening it and reducing its reach. This, in case it isn't obvious, is the same thing as weakening and reducing the reach of the Good Ol' US of A. This is is not only obvious to me, and any other American with half a brain (and I'm leaving China's admission to the WTO and the effect that has had on America's strength out of this discussion for the sake of simplicity - and just in case you're not aware of it, that was the result of yet another Liberal brainstorm), but to anybody else who's watching. So, Putin, realizing our position of obvious weakness and the stated unwillingness of our current dovish, socialist president, whose stated aim from the time of his 2008 campaign has been to dismantle the US Constitution, he has made his move.
In the past, when the US was governed by a more sane, rational policy which included maintaining and projecting a position of strength, both military and economic (OK, I let a little of the china issue creep into this after all), Russia had reason to pause before taking over other nations. In fact, i would venture to guess that Russia's leaders would be afraid to make such a move and incur the disfavor of the US. Now, in large part because Obama has marginalized the US as a world power, Russia pretty much doesn't give a flying fuck about the US and what it thinks. Before, the US and Russia were both strong and powerful world powers, each with good reason to respect and possibly fear the other. Russia no longer has any reason to respect or fear the US, and so Putin knows he can do whatever the fuck he wants to do and get away with it. So what's going to happen, while Obama wrings his hands and attempts to bluster a little, is Putin will recreate the USSR. Which, now that I think of it, might be just fine with Obama, since Socialism is his desired societal structure to begin with.
