Ive done it for three, but im trying to go union. I need some ideas on where i can study for the aptitude test. I did decent last year but ya gotta do great to get in.
I just started the sheet metal union december 2, 2002.
Quite a world of difference going from working behind a computer for Playboy magazine for 8 years then switch to manual labor...
Find out what the union hall for tinners in your area is. Tell them you're looking for an apprenticeship and they'll usually get you in fast since apprentices usually start at $13 when journeymen get $24 plus per hour. Most medium to large companies are union, well, here anyway. My pay will increase about $2.50 a year til my fifth year when I make journeyman. Personally, I'd advise you to get into the steamfitter or plumbing trade. They make more money....
Hey bro, im here in PA and the Sheetmetal workers are takin names for apprentices this coming monday feb 3rd, I plan to apply, applied to plumbers and pipefitters 2 weeks ago too, Union is the only way to go bro. good luck and im glad to see there are a fiew HVAC guys lingerin around here, now I am at home...
take a good calculator that does fractions and a knowlede in grammar is a plus...thats about all my test was based on and i scored in the 97th percentile.
Teflon, If you are from Central/Southern NJ the rate is $33hr., for a 1st year apprentice it's $16.50. I'm going on vacation on 2/1/03 and won't be back til the 8th, but they should be taking applacaitons soon. get in touch with me I have a good reputation with all 3 hall's local's 25(Norhtern), 27()Cen/South), & 28(NYC) I run a lot of work in all 3 area's. just don't mention I'm a juice monkey
Was just curious 'cause I know there are a few here who are tradesmen, and I AM a journeyman. International Association of Bridge, Structural, and Ornamental Ironworkers.
bro, you got 3 years ex. then I suggest you try to get organized. by that i mean give the local a call and talk to the BA ,they might give you the journey man test and depending on your score they will place you in a class dependent on your knowledge of the trade.
I too am a Union Man been turned out now 2 yrs with the fitters.
Good Luck.
