Diet Soda while cutting...

bigjosh

MC Vet
I'm cutting right now and will be for the next 4-6 weeks. All I drink lately is water and crystal light. I have been drinking diet drinks though and was wondering what you guys think...

Is it bad to drink diet sodas when trying to lose fat?

I know they contain some sodium, but zero calories. In theory all I can see is that the sodium may cause you to look smoother, but that shouldn't inhibit fat loss right?

See I am not worried about holding water, I just want to lose FAT. I figure diet drinks shouldn't hurt because I can still lose the fat with them and when I discontinue them and cut sodium I will lose the water weight. Does this sound right?

I'm strictly dieting now for the next few weeks and then I'll start bulking again. I'm sorta bridging now, taking femara, clomid, slin, dbol (one small daily doseage), 6iu's GH ED, 25mcg t3 ED, and pgf2 ED. I figure I'm gonna hold some water being that I'm bridging w/ dbol, so I can't see sodium in diet drinks inhibiting fat loss.

So sodium inhibits definition but not fat loss am I right? Again I'm not worried about "looks" just body composition. Water compositions is not a mater but fat is. My overall goal is far down the road so water retention doesn't interfere...

So am I right that sodium does not inhibit fat loss, but is ONLY avoided because one holds water and isn't as defined?

gotta loos the water to burn the fat .....?

you don't want to drink juice or soda....you should be drinking distilled water.

there only a little bit of sodium in det soda. u can cut out the salt in your diet and drink soda instead. i dont think diet soda will hurt anyone while cutting.

If u doing a show, i suggest you don't drink diet or any carbonated drinks, period..... Why? Because carbonated beverages slow down digestion process. While cutting u need to have ure metabolism speed up not slow down.. And Sodium shit I would not worry about.

thats what I was asking if sodium inhibits fat loss. Thanks for the input fellas. I have concluded it does not. It may hinder definition due to water ret. but not FAT loss...

I think avoiding salt and just drinking distilled water is pointless given my goals stated above buyb12... I could be wrong but I think that just has to do with water retention. I do not care about being bloated just want to make sure it doesn't hinder fat burning. Now carbonation and digestion would be an issue to me if I was cutting to competition levels, but I'm just leaning up for a few weeks before I start bulking again. So I'm trying to lose body fat stores. Water hiding my muscles doesn't bother me...thanks for all the input EVERYONE! I'm gonna continue to drink the diet drinks. I'd only watch carbonation and salt if I was gonna get ripped up for competition or practice...(I have never competed, but sometimes cut like as if I was to see what I'm capable of)

Its also true that diet soda or any drink with artifical sweetners triggers hunger responses which can make dieting a bit more painful. Stick to water I've never really heard great things about distilled water, pluss it tastes weird. Whats the old saying? The more water in the more water out.

Diet sodas

Yes you can drink diet sodas while dieting...just remember to drink sufficient amounts of pure water...NOT distilled!
Sodium does NOT prevent fat loss at all!!!!! Without it your workouts will suffer greatly and you will be depleted and feel like shit! Sodium should not be reduced while dieting until 72 hours out from the time you step on stage! Sodium and potassium levels are regulated in the body and wil be fine as long as you drink plenty of H2O. There are many pros who drink diet coke throughout their precontest diets...not a problem....just dont treat it as a substitute for pure water!

You and I agree in quite a few areas, bro. I don't know if that is a good thing for YOU bit I don't mind because it cuts my typing time for responses. lol

I do believe that the artificial sweeteners trigger carb cravings - at least they do for me and always have. I also know that the carbonation slows down MY digestion and makes me bloated for quite awhile.

I don't think that there would be any difference in someone's physique condition after drinking a couple diet sodas everyday for their contest prep but if you are as anal-retentive as I am, you should probably just keep em out.

ADD: In my opinion, and I mean no disrespect by saying this, the information given earlier on distilled water was grossly inaccurate.

However, this is simply MY opinion.

Re:Skip

Well great minds think alike I assume! ;o)
On a different note...the bloating you feel from soda's etc is definitely from the carbonation...i ge tthe same feeling..but it is a myth that carbonation slows down digestion...any liquid ingested while eating can impair protein synthesis slightly..but not to a significant degree...the carbonation actually speeds up digestions and allows the for a faster absorbtion into the bloodstream..it is this reason why you will notice people drinking carbonated beverages with alcohol get buzzed or drunk quicker! many people just assumed the the bloat was a digestive issue...it is discomfortng but thats about it!
ps. hey Skip been trying your shitloading ...actually i just called it a cheat day and used to feel guilty until i saw the effects...now i look forward to guilt free "shitloads" LOL
Peace Bro!

Glad to hear that you are using the shitload. To be honest, I have not shitloaded yet this year during precontest. I feel I know how it will work so I am leaving it for the end. However, I sure do miss all those Krispy Kremes and then coming back next week only to be 2 pounds leaner and tigher! I just HATE the bloat that stays with me for 2-3 days after the shitload. When you are precontest and holding 8 or more pounds of water, you just don't feel too confident, ya know? lol

I can't argue your point on carbonation as I simply associate bloating with slower digestion. This is a very general assumption but for the most part, bloat tends to indicate slower digestion, my experience. Again, you are probably correct on this point and I am simply making an assumption. I do that sometimes. hehe

Get back to me on that PM when you get a minute. I have a few ideas but I don't want to say until you do. :D

I don't usually drink too much soda in general, but when I do drink them for awhile then cut them out of my diet I get a little groggy for a few days, what is the cause of that. I've always heard that soda is not good for losing wieght, but i see the difference between water wieght and fat.

the other problem with the artificial sweetners in diet soda is that they all contain aspartate (aspartum). This is some nasty stuff which research has shown over-excites your brain cells and kills them off one by one.

Now, if you're like me, then you don't really need all those pesky brain cells, and you rely on your good looks and charm to get you through life, instead of the always over-rated intelligence...

otherwise, I'd cut all diet soda out of your diet. my 2 cents...

Too funny!
japan69 I assume you have used aas before...and you are worried about a bit of aspartame? lol i dont think you have anything to worry about...there are plenty of unhealthy substances we put into our bodies..the whole point being in "moderation" only whne u go to extremes to side effects usually manifest themselves..be safe , be smart...be healthy!
Peace,
P

praet: yes, I have used aas. But the point being that I'm doing it for the benefits, not the sides. WHy would I purposely put something in my body with no benefits, knowing that it will mess me up? AAS has sides, but also a lot of benefits. WHat is the benefit of aspartame?

just like... those nasty trans fatty acids. anything that says "partially hydrogenated" can keep the hell out of me, thanks.

Aspartame

Well, japan69 you have me there, cant quite think of benefits of aspartame except maybe the sweetening aspect..but again..how detrimental is it to our bodies...if we are to worry about things like that i would suggest starting to buy all your food from organic farms, free range animals and eliminating any water you drink over 1 ppm of dissolved solids..that means every bottled water on the market! Also, stop going to any clubs where they permit smoking...second hand smoke is far worse then aspartame, also eliminate any/all alcohol consumption whatsoever..as well as any barbecued food...carcinogenic you know! I think you get my point...life is full of dangers and pitfalls..i in no way am condoning putting anything unhealthy into your body but where do we draw the line?
Peace,
P

Unless your getting ready for a show, why not? It will probably only make you hold a little water, shouldn't interfere with fat loss.
