Seriously, I'll see if I can get a video for you of what I'm talking about and I think if you tried it and used some Tommy Kono knee sleeves you'd be surprised. The additional stress points are a give and take pretty much with anything in the gym. You can take one exercise and change the range of motion slightly and it could cause a stress point in a different location. It's basically a give and take with that.
I have had knee problems in the past from sports, but I can honestly tell you that since I met my old training partner (a powerlifter turned strongman) and having him stress sitting back during squats my knees are no longer even in question. I guess it also can depend on the amount of damage done too.
